12.134 seconds!!!
« on: Jul 22, 2004, 12:46PM »
i ran my car last night at the test n tune on full slicks and stripped interior and had a best of 12.134@112mph. 60ft of 1.87
second best of 12.184@112mph. 60ft of 1.91
i was hoping to dip into the 11's but didnt happen...still happy though.

i will improve the suspension and add cams before jamboree which should see me there hopefully.

my mph was a bit dissapionting considering that a ran a 13.6@113mph with 50kw less and on street tyres. i running a 26 inch slick which is too big but the smallest i could run on a 15inch wheel which again is the smallest i could fit behind the brakes. would of liked to run a 24.5inch but they only come on 13inch wheels.

also i know they are too big cos i was just changing to 4th gear crossing the line.

im still happy with the results and there is a lot of room for improvement with the right setup.

You may get to that speed alot faster weasel (launch and changes being the spots you loose most of your time in).

yeah there was a real nice 32 gtr there and he was pulling 12.2's. i wanted to line up against him to show what a fwd can do!

i have to say that that was the greatest experience ive had with the slicks on. i drop the clutch at 6500rpm and it takes off like a bullet and you just struggle to keep it in a straight line. after only a slight break of traction when the clutch comes out it just hooks up all the way. the boost spiked to 23psi and came down to 20 and even in 1st gear there is no break of traction. jam second and still no slip.

its the horniest thing ever.... words cant describe it till u try it ;D

how can the times be quicker but the speed be slower or vice versa

lamens terms please :P

its mainly to do with the rolling diameter of the tyres. its kind of like a diff ratio where a 4.11 gear will go through the gears quickly and have fast accelleration compared to a set of 2.56 gears which will slowly go through the gears but have a big top end speed.

tyres are the same except a higher rolling diameter will have the slower accelleration compared to a lower rolling diameter. and when you only have 400m of space you want a tyre that will get you over the line in high rpm in 4th gear. i was just changing to 4th gear crossing the line so my tyres are too big.

hope this makes sense ???

and heres a pic of all the sh*t i pulled out of the car. weighs about 150kg all up! thats including the front and rear spoilers. i would have kept the rear on but its getting a custom job at dmd at the moment.

by the way the sub box sitting there is for sale now as im getting a huge boot install next week. its a 15" JL Audio sub in a custom built box made by me to fit with access the spare wheel still and allowing a lot of boot space still. with a good amp it will thump your heart! email me for more pics if interested.

yep think i've got it

so on the slicks you got a sweet (not really the word i know) but because of the larger tyre it would take alot longer to get to a higher speed

but on street tyres you don't get quite as good a launch but you can make a top speed easier

and also there are no pics

yeah i towed the car up there cos of the risk of something breaking. luckily it all held on! i had 30mm spacers/adapters on there and i could only do a half turn on the steering wheel before it scrubbed on the mudflaps. it was funny when i was put on the closest lane cos i had to do a 5 point turn to get straight in line for a burnout. and they were huge burnouts starting in second gear...hehe i smoked the place out 8)

Top work SIR_TRX,

i know a bloke with an R32 GTR that has a shit load of mods and only runs 12.20 quarters ;D

EDIT:  i was just looking on the sau quarter mile time list and realised that your car would be the 10th fastest car (out of 41) if it was on there, pretty impressive ;D

now i have the taste for it i want more! my goals for this car was to get it on a cover of a magazine and get 11's and both are just about achievable now. i hope to line up a photo shoot at salon in august as it will be complete by then.

as for the 11's i will be ditching the 26inch slicks for some new 22's. this with a new suspension set up should see me get 11's with the same power. i want to achieve this at jamboree in september. hopefully it will still be cool enough to run the same boost levels i did on wed. i may add cams before then if i have enough money ::)

as big kev says....IM EXCITED :D

That is a bloody EXCELLENT time! The guy's in the Xr6Turbo club are struggling to do anything better than 12.2's (though on street tyres) so for a 'little' 2 Litre Bum Dragger to come out and blast a 12.1! Kudos to you my friend!

Great Effort and well deserved.

geez mate i still cant believe that!! funny shit man :P

u know im now gonna have to fix that up before salon if they have enough time to do it. i cant have something stupidly wrong with the car like that.

after all the times ive washed it and played with the indicators ive never noticed it and budge sees it in the pics of it..... i must be the dumbest man ever ;D

what do you guys reckon looks better the top or bottom position? and which one is series 1 or 2?

i think if i get the lower one put up and filling the hole, i might be able to get away with just painting to the crease in the metal from the bottom so i dont have to get the whole fender resprayed again. shouldnt be too expensive.

and its a 91 model budge..... no hard feelings dude, u have saved me a lot of embarrassment i bet ;)

all the pintaras built before october 91 are series one, all the pintaras built during and after october 91 are series 2.

personally i think series 2 indicator location looks better, but i think what you need to consider is what will be cheaper and easier because the first thing i thought when budge bought it up was how expensive it would be to either get a whole new panel and respray it or weld up everything and cut a new hole and then respray etc to have the indicators match.

Yep, I think if you can take the lower one (series-1) and move it up to the same spot as the series-2 side that would look the best.

EDIT:  i was just looking on the sau quarter mile time list and realised that your car would be the 10th fastest car (out of 41) if it was on there, pretty impressive ;D
http://skylines.pnc.com.au/drags.html

Lets not get too carried away...40 of the 41 times on that list are with STREET tyres, big difference to slicks! And that particular list is ONLY people who have submitted an electronic scan of their timeslip...
btw, SIR_TRX, AWESOME time :D

slicks or not i dont think it really matters, i know you cant compare running on slicks to street tyres, but at least he's getting out there and doing the times.

whats your quarter time dale?

just looking at the car thats running slicks on skylines australia, this is what he is running:

Ride:
R32 gtst
Engine type and displacement:
RB26DETT
Induction:
Turbo
Major modifications:
RB20 out RB26 in
Tranny type:
Manual
Tires:
Drag Radials
Race weight:
unsure
Power:
280kw

and he got half a second quicker than sir_trx. so i dunno.. not bagging the guy, its a fantastic effort and a real quick car, but to me a 12.1 in a fwd 4 cylinder is more impressive than an 11.6 in a rwd 6 cylinder monster.

I am with you there noss, glen's time is ver impressive, considering the foundation he worked from. No doubt the skyline is a better building block, but glen has done really well. It also comes down to money though, he may not have spent alot on his skyline....meeh I dunno

nah not being hostile, i was just asking out of curiosity. i've only ever seen your dyno sheets which is why i was interested in your quarter times, i actually didnt know you'd run the skyline down the quarter.

and i was also just saying that its good that sir_trx gets out there and has a go and flies the nissan flag where as a lot of people cant or dont. just as a general comment. not hostile at all.

hey nismo i dont think anyone was bagging the skyline. i have the upmost respect for the car and its potential.

but u cant really compare a fwd to a rwd car even when im running slicks. its just a whole different ball game. so when i time is posted from a fwd that gives many modded skylines with same to more power a scare, its very impressive. thats what everyone is goin on about i think.

i know i was running slicks but u gotta understand that a skyline running the same power to me on slicks wouldnt make too much of a difference in time to a fwd on slicks. hence the rwd advantage and why not many of the skylines on the website have run slicks for that matter. if i ran streets i would of got mid 13's

and i reckon if i played with my suspension and get smaller slicks, im pretty sure it would hit somewhere around 11.7-11.8 with the same power. so i got more potential aswell ;)

peace :)

I used to own a TRX myself and would have loved to do the "sr20det" engine swap or even turbocharge the old ka24, heck i was bloddy close to putting the ka24de head on mine [from aussie u13 b-bird] anyway...

While I am the owner, my current car won't be going anywhere near 11 second 1/4's - I dont have the money for those sort of upgrades [wife+mortgage = broke :D]

A lot of people underestimate the TRX / Pintara - to their own embarrassment ;)

the post i edited was in reference to a particular r31 pintara driver who's only mods are iridium spark plugs and he reckons just that got his 0-100km times down from 9.8 seconds to 7.2 seconds.

Sounds like you may be underestimating the difference a tyre can make...on rwd?

HPI recorded a massive difference between 3 different tyres running 1/4 mile and circuit times in their r34 project car...none were slicks although the best were Nittos which are still classed as street tyres!

i know that it would make a difference on a rwd car with heaps of power. i was refering to a rwd with 200kw compared to a fwd with 200kw and their differences in times.

This is just my opinion...

Its a lot easier to push something than to pull it. Therefore it is a lot easier for a rwd compared to a fwd.

Cant be bothered going into details but thats one thing i learnt in physics  :D

when a car dumps it off the line all the weight distributes to the back. so therefore when a rwd car accelerates there is a lot of weight on the back wheels so it has way better traction on launch. the fwd launch will take all the weight off the front wheels and make a loss in traction.

i just thought i better clear this up,

i wasnt bagging out skylines or anything of the sort by posting a comparison between SIR_TRX's car and SAU cars.  I was only stating how impressive it is for his car to be "up there with the best of 'em"

i was watching sum fwd drag video a while back, and there was a 9 sec civic that had a wheelie bar, yes  WHEELIE bar, and he was actually getting bagged for doing it... but on the video he described how it actually does give the fron better traction, cause as SIR_TRX said, all the power is at the front, the ass end takes all the weight,  adn there is a loss of traction as the back end of the car does dip down, so by having a wheelie bar, it actually did give more traction at the front....sumthign to think abotu glenn if u wanna get even better traction

** edit i jsut read wat i wrote and i dunno if it makes sence, but yeah

all the info is around if you take the time to search. sir_trx had his swap done at charlie's motors in brisbane. the best idea is to do a little bit more research yourself.

you might be able to find some info here:

http://www.antrx.com/mr/display.php?id=140

other than that, use the search button.
