clunky noise from front end? CV joints?
« on: Jul 19, 2008, 11:17PM »
hey guys. bluey has been making some crackey crunky noises that sounds kind of like a busted CV joint when i steer sharply and going in and out of driveways and junk (at low speeds) when i first drive the car, seems to settle when ive been driving a little, only really makes noise when i turn the wheel a fair bit, i think its the sound of a CV joint thats busted, but it sounds like both sides. anything else make that noise? also im not sure if its my head or something else but i think i hear a whirrrrring sound when i stop accelerating and im slowing down to enter a roundabout or something (not braking)

any ideas?

if its CVs what usually needs replacing and what kind of damage to the wallet am i looking at?

my car does that too, but it only started when i got new wider wheels, so i think its just the wheels rubbing on the arc, it only does it when i have fully locked the wheel and go over a bump/ off driveway etc

i have 195's on

I got quoted the following

Reco joints/shafts ($140-180 each)
New $220ish each
1hr labour to do it all $88

Id rather go for new obviously, i dont like reco esp when it comes to being 40 bucks cheaper than fuckin new. jeez

This a rip ? havent shopped around yet just asked a friends mech

Go reconditioned......
Reco'ed ones will have new inner and outer cv joints installed and new boots.
Save yourself the money, you will never notice the difference. You can then use the extra cash to buy fuel!
