It was not my Timing Chain!!!?
« on: Apr 10, 2008, 01:23PM »
Hey guys whats up long time no see, I recently sold my for stanzas and bought me a 95 Nissan Altima beautiful it runs great, looks great, best upgrade from SOHC to DOHC(I should off done it sooner). But just recently I was hearing a rattling and by reading the posts here I thought it was the Timing Chain. Today I my boy took the car to do the timing chain, when I turned the car on the rattling was still there :'( ??? (It was not my Timing Chain) But who cares now the car responds alot faster now weeeeeee!!!! and for my luck I got it done for free (good ;D) so the rattling its coming from the transmission but the clutch its new ???, so they told that it could be the T/O bearing thats making the rattling. But here's the catch while am at a red light its does not rattle only when I accelerate the car its rattles thats why i thought it was the Timing Chain, and sometime it goes away when i step on the clutch pedal. So what do you guys think it could be? has this ever happen to one of you guys?

Could be bolt or something loose, or even inside the bellhousing!  I've seen it before!

My gearbox bearing made a rattling sound under acceleration when they were broken.  But that was on my 97lx bluey (manual) just got all the bearings replaced (thrust bearing inlcluded) and it was gone.

The location of your noise points to a worn thrust bearing. They can rattle like mad when they are really worn. A good clue is that the noise disappears or lessens when your foot is on the clutch. That's because the clutch fork puts pressure on the thrust bearing making it spin truer.
