Respraying bumpers...?
« on: Feb 10, 2006, 01:36PM »
Has anyone ever tried to respray the bumpers (not bodykits) of GLI's or any other Pintara that doesnt have the matching colour to the car?

Ive got the Black bumper, and i like the look of it, but its faded in areas into a mucky gray...

I wanna just give it a good respray with a *possibly* gloss black and clear coat, but will it stick to the plastic well??

Of course the presanding and cleaning, then priming will be done first, but still, what are peoples thoughts?

Will it work? Or a better question will it work WELL?

Plastic primer, then the car paint on top

Should stick

I've recently resprayed both front and rear bodykits and bumpers, its fairly easy, i used plastic primer and then this funny paint that has gloss and colour mixed together. this stuff is great for plastics. i think its called 2k solid.

I will put my support behind K&H Etch Primer.  I used a quick coat of that on my U13 grille before painting with the black and clear coats - and it shows no signs of peeling off at all.  I can't remember how much it cost - but it would have been less than $10 for a pretty large spray can.

I had the same issue with the black parts of the bumpers faded to grey on my old Corsair (mine had body coloured bumpers, but with a black strip in them) - I used shoe polish to make it look a bit better....  In your situation, I think paint would be the way to go (since it is the WHOLE bumper, not just a little strip down the middle).

Nope -- 2.5 TT :D (1JZ-GTE)

Hmm... is this 2K solid an areosol? Or is it in a tin?

Ive got the full air compressor kit, and wanna use that, rather than a can, cause it has better coverage and much more precise... better for large areas.

Anyone with ideas about paints for use in airguns?

Ive used acrylic paint for some bodywork in my OLD mazda, but that was just real quick and cheap... I want this to last, and done right the first time...

2k solid is a tin, i used it with my compressor as well and it gave a great result. does your gun feel from the top or bottom?? mine feeds from the bottom, you have to thin it down more thats all. mix it in a ratio or 4:2:1 paint:hardener:thinner

Im having a local smash repairs go through the agony of resprayng my bumpers, plus my roof and front left quater panel. the old fart that owned it befor me had some protectant sprayed on it to protect from sun damage, except it done the opposite and peeled off and took the paint with it.
