Painting my SSS Grille
« on: Feb 1, 2006, 07:27PM »
Ok, Don't flame me up, i've searched and found nothing relevant.

I can't even find the "Red paint in a can" thread anymore..

Basically, I have a "grey" SSS Grille, i think it's the HNU (honeycomb that's concave), It has some minor imperfections like it's had a hole in it and plugged up with rubber then the rubber has been smeared on top of the plastic, the black has faded, and a few clips broken..Now i have a few questions..

Paint, I want the red paint in a can for our cars - noss im pretty sure you knoe exactly what im talking about, what is it called and where can i get it from ?

Imperfections - Should i just sand them back ? If so, what grade sand paper ?
Black fade - Armorall over it and let it sit over night ?
Painting it - Sand the whole grey area back and re-paint it red ? or just slap the paint on top.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Chris

Hey mate you might have to leave it in the sun for a while once you've painted it so the red don't stand out too much  :P

yes please... i got no badge fuken !  :(

anyway.. i decided to put pics up...

Here are the tools i used

My SSS grille, notice the damage in the middle

Patched up, ready for sanding, first up i need to plug the holes, i used the plastic bond.

After i plugged the holes up, i sanded it back, cleaned it, primed it and put a first coat on, i need to sand it back, smooth out all the imperfections i got

And a top shot

I hope you used decent quality clear coat, I used Export clear gloss on my grille about 4 months ago, it's now quite yellow and not glossy at all.
