CA18DET in a U12???
« on: Jun 23, 2009, 12:55AM »
Came up with the idea of doing a CA18DET engine swap, but before i can start plaaning ahead or anything do you guys reckon its actually possible or
A) Strengthen the CA20 then turbo it
B) Go for the KA24
or
C) Get an SR20det Instead??

Much help appreciated  :)

how much money do you have to spend?

cheapest would be the KA24, and if you got the DE head then you'd have some okay powuh

strengthening the CA20 would cost a lot of time and money without dismal results unless done properly.

SR20det would cost heaps, with less powuh than a KA24det.

end result?

LS1, nobody has done it yet.

mm havent got much money and time at the moment because
1) Lost my job a couple of months ago (fkn peter stevens T__T)
and 2) School's taking up most of my time and money at the moment.
Im eager on doing it, just that i dont have the resources, time and money as of yet

That's plan B if i cant get a hold of a CA18. i heard that some CD20 parts are compatible with the CA i got atm but i gotta look into it a little more

LOL i wish but it's too complicated. and after seeing what hiro did with the VG30 i dont think an LS1 will fit unless the engine bay was modified to house it  ???

out of your options, go ca18det. obviously get a job again first, save your cash and then do it. in the meantime just get drunk.

gearbox wise, i guess use the ca20 one if it fits (cant remember if it does) until it breaks, they're supposed to be fairly strong as they're the same box as on the maxima, but i doubt it.

once the gearbox shits itself, replace it with one from a ca18de nissan exa.
