« on: Aug 21, 2015, 03:44PM »
grabbed a set of rays nuts today and Andrew from Kudos Motorsport sent me through the warning they got from Rays re dura-nut fakes. he didnt say don't buy them , just know that they are if you do choose to do so .. ;) after all the fakes are around sub $100 and genuine are sub $200. i did also spot fakes selling as original.

Really not worth the risk running any type of aluminium wheel nuts.

Why? Aluminium has a fatigue life, and once that life is reached, they fail.

Steel does not, unless you overload them past the rated yield stress of the material.

As an example, I run normal steel wheel nuts on my track car. Prior to going out on the track, i've had them torqued up TIGHT (80-90Nm).

5 laps at speed after the first session - I can tighten them a further 1/2 turn.

I would not want to be doing that with aluminium wheel nuts.

I have bought them in a 5 stud pack, seem fine with 4 spares ::). All those reasons SSS is why I didn't want fakes, and I figured Rays aren't shit and it is a blend , not just alloy. The other reason is they are black and I couldn't get anything else than chrome. I am however looking for a black set of steel ones just incase they fail, which they probably will. :-\

I thought I would post what ended up happening with Rays Nuts. I ended up having dramas as expected but not what I thought would happen. The neck of the nuts ended up stretching with the heat which ment would let the wheel move. So experiment done SSS was correct again, dont get  any aluminum nuts ::)
