u13 front speakers
« on: Oct 4, 2005, 10:37PM »
Hi all,
I was just wondering if someone could tell me what the size of the standard speakers is in the front of the u13?
And what speakers have people put in there? Can 6" speakers be put in without too much trouble?

Thanks.

Not sure about the U13, but 6.5" speakers fit nicely in U12s.

I've had both Pioneer and Panasonic 6.5"ers in my car. Some speakers may need spacers to clear the window glass.

Fronts in the U13 are 6"x4".
I got 6.5" in my doors, work good. Had to do few minor modifications for them to fit in nicely. I just cut out a piece of wood (thin MDF) and screwed it to the plastic so the gap is closed off, then cut a hole for the speaker. Does the trick nicely.

Is there plenty of room for the magnet to miss the window glass Ka-bluey?
You didn't need to use spacers did you?
I'm thinking of using jaycar 6" speakers that have rather large magnets.

it depends on how long the speaker is, from the end of the magnet to the mounting holes...

Yea there should be enough room. I kept the plastic bit that the stocko speakers were in, but away few of the plastic tabs that stuck out, cut out a piece of MDF and screwed it to that.

As long as the speaker is no deeper then the stock plastic in the door you should be good to go.

Righto, thanks guys, I just had a quick look at jaycar site, I'll most likely use these speakers:

Precision Response Kevlar Coaxials - 6.5" 2 Way
Power Handling: 75WRMS
Impedance: 4 ohm
Voice Coil Resistance: 3.9ohm
Vas: 12.183
Qms: 3.401
Qes: 0.666
Qts: 0.557
Sensitivity: 91.3dB/Wm
BL: 4.981 TM
Dimensions: 157(Dia) x 77(D)mm
A: 157 B: 148 C: 78

I don't think 77mm will be too deep, but I'll check it beforehand anyways.

i think everyone has already covered it, but you will need spacers, probably 12mm mdf should do
