Had enough of the shit awful 6.5" coaxs in the trx, and am getting some 6.5" components for the fronts.
Mounting for the mids is no problem, but where is the best place to mount the tweeters?
Top of the door trim close to the dash?
In the fabric part of the trim?
Fab up mounting for them in the A pillars?
Paging Jono / Sticky?
-
What type of mounting options do you have with the tweeters? I put my alpine ones in the top of the door just below the top plastic trim.
Will find a photo.
-
This is the only photo I have readily available.

-
mount them on the little plastic piece on the inside of the mirror if u got electric mirrors
-
top of the a-pillar is the best position...
-
Cheers guys.
Paul, haven't bought them yet, going on the assumption of using flush mounted hardware.
Dano, no electric mirrors, otherwise I would have!
Jay, did you have them up there in your old IS?
For anyone interested, looking at Pioneer TS-A1702C's, can get them for about $160 on ebay. Autobarn / JB etc want $260-290!
Found the Alpine SD series 6.5" components have a tweeter that is WAY too bright, German Maestro (original MB Quart so i'm told) AS608's sound nice, but looking at $240 a set...
Anyone else got any suggestions for a decent set of 6.5" components under $200?

yup, and my car won numerous SQ comps... its the best position for them by far
Anyone else got any suggestions for a decent set of 6.5" components under $200?
bro, spend a little extra a buy a half decent set of Polk's
New Polk Audio db 6501 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Polk-Audio-db-6501-6-l-2-Component-Speakers-System-/170555069764?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b5dfd544)
but if you REALLY want something under the $200 mark
HERTZ HSK 165 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HERTZ-ENERGY-HSK-165-6-5-2-WAY-COMPONENT-SPEAKERS-NEW-/190440244068?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c571f8364)
or
Kenwood KFC-P605ie (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Kenwood-Car-Speakers-KFC-P605ie-/200531636200?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb09defe8)

Gave that guy a call jay about the hertz's....he reckons they sell for about $400....
Is this just bullshit audio retailer markup compared to ebay pricing??
-
nah, hertz are good quality stuff, you'll only find them in "premium" car audio places...
i wouldnt say they are 400 but a little over 300 would be about right.
-
What do you think the deal is with the ebay sellers then only asking $150?
-
All good mate...they are fakes.
No pick up in melbourne + bad engrish + poor explanation why they are cheap = fail.
-
lol... fair enough, but you should be able to find a set for under 200...
the importer has recently shut up shop and because of this, the importer has flooded the market with them real cheap to get rid of them quick.
keep an eye out
-
Have you heard those Kenwood 6.5" jay? what did you think?
ryda.com.au have them for $160.
-
yea, even though those kenwoods are a cheapie, they rate in my top 10...
great sound for the price...
-
There's a few pics of how I had mine mounted before they were set alight in this thread: http://www.antrx.com/smf/index.php/topic,14829.msg233914.html#msg233914

Missed out on the Kenwoods...got outbid and they went for $66! I shouldn't have been a tight ass and set my bid at $65...oops!
I'm going to leave this until i'm ready to install them, no point them sitting in the garage in a box for another 8 weeks!
-
When i had my Pintara i recessed the tweeters into the top corner of the main piece of trim, the flat piece not any of the add on bits, if you can understand that,
i chose there because the door frame has a big hole behind it that the tweeters sat into nicely
can't find any pics of it though
-
Cheers Troy. I vaguely remember seeing a pic of how you did yours sometime ago.
-
Just to dig this up, ended up buying a set of Clarion SRQ1621's, 6.5" components for $89 from Repco (on sale from today until 27.03). Could not find them any cheaper than that online.
-
My tweeters came in my car when I got it, they are mounted on the door cards above the power window switches....
-
One year on, i might actually get to installing these next Friday...lol
just going to stick the tweeters in the top corner of the fabric part of the door trim, flush mounted.
Want it relatively stealth though, I leave this car at the station 3 out of 5 days a week.
-
6.5" wouldn't fit in the door so you removed the plastic pocket/speaker cover and have some kind of speaker pod/spacer ? I paid $40 for a set of nice angled speaker pods with tweeter mounts made from finreglass from eBay. Will get pics soon if interested.
-
I've mounted mine in the same spot Adam. Basically invisible from outside with tinted windows.
-
Thought about painting them the same grey as the rest of the interior...however i'd need to pull the tweeter apart to paint the grille. The flush mounts have got clarion embossed in them, going to fill and paint them so they're plain.

with the correct thickness mdf spacer, 6.5" do fit. i used to run them in both the trx and the t. stock location, no modification to the door trim.

Thats where they were in Urq's old TRX, looked and sounded great.

Soundstreams seem to go alot deeper into the door than other brand speakers ive noticed, well, the ones i have anyway...
-
I mounted mine down in the Plastic Guard thing over the speaker. They fit ok down their.
-
Hang the tweeters off the rear view mirror by the wire, kinda like fluffy dice, that would be the sensible thing to do, jeez guys c'mon why didnt anyone else think of this?
-
Put them in yesterday, used the angle mount pod things and screwed them to the plastic trim just above the oe speaker grill / map pocket.
Imaging isn't too bad, pointing straight up to the driver / passenger. Not very visible either which is great, only downside is if some oaf collects the pod with their foot exiting the car, which would be a feat considering where they're mounted. Pics later.
