Problems starting up my Pintara
« on: Jul 31, 2005, 01:27PM »
Hi

I have a 1992 Pintara Executive and whenever I try to start it up the engine will not kick in (struggles to start), but after a second attempt the engine will kick in. Apart from this problem the car seems to run fine.

Does anybody know what the problem might be? Is it worth fixing, I'm not bothered by it but I don't want it to cause bigger problems down the track.

Thanks!

Leave the ignition on for 2 seconds before you start it so it can pump fuel up to the engine.

definately the fuel pump.  what my mechnic reckons is that a valve in the fuel pump has broken, which means that pressure isn't kept when the fuel pump turns off.  its not a serious thing, just means you have to wait a bit.  you should hear a whirring noise when you turn the key to pre ignition.  once the whirring stops, your lines are at full pressure, and it'll start first time everytime..
