Timing chain
« on: Feb 20, 2005, 11:26AM »
I would like to know if I could change the timing chain on my ka24 engine by taking the rocker cover off and feeding the timing chain down the bottom and fishing it back up again .I have seen it done on a suzuki gti before. My donk has only done 160k so do you think I would have to change the tensioners as well? also super cheap auto in narrelan in nsw quoted  $21 for the timing chain alone does that sound ok?

no it doesn't sound ok.
you can't "fish" it back up, the timing chain is one piece and can't be disconnected without weakening the chain. the front timing cover has to come off.

Use this button, it has been covered before.

Also, dont buy a supercheap chain. Read what happened to SSSticks supercheap timing stuff (granted it was the tensioner, but meh). For this job its worth it to go genuine. You wont have to do it again for a long time - if ever - so just pay a little extra. The chain is $105.12, or $81.81 if you can get trade  ;)

Pull the motor out if you have access to the right equipment
