too many speakers, help build my system
« on: Jul 28, 2009, 02:32PM »
I have recently acquired a few more amps, speakers and subs, all Kenwood. I already have a full system but see this as an opportunity to build a better one. All I am looking for is peoples opinions and recommendations of what to use.
I want this to sound good basically, I'm not really into SPL. BTW I listen to rock music mostly and some RnB/rap type stuff.

In the car at the moment I have.
-2 6inch cadence 2 ways in the front doors, ZXN-62 60WRMS
-2 Sony 6x9s in the parcel shelf, XS-GF6932X 60WRMS/300W Peak
-An MB QUART RAB450 amp for the speakers (yet to install)
-2 x 12 inch CADENCE UD 124-H SUBS, 350WRMS/700W Peak (no box yet, will be custom)
-Oh, and a BOSS AUDIO BA-4400 amp
With a highish end SONY HU

What I have now is
-2 KENWOOD KFC-1660S 6inch speakers, 35WRMS/160W peak?
-2 KENWOOD KFC-M6935A 6x9s, 60WRMS/350W peak
-2 KENWOOD KFC-W3010 12 inch subs, 200WRMS/1000W Peak, in separate Kenwood boxes
AMPS
-KAC-8401 60Wx4 RMS/180Wx2, max power 640W
-KAC-8101D 200Wx1 RMS @ 4ohms
and a STINGER wiring kit

I don't know whether to use the KENWOOD 6x9s in the parcel shelf or the 6inchers, and do you think the KENWOOD sub amp would be good enough for the cadence subs or do I need something else?
Any other speaker/amp recommendations are welcome.
nothing.

IMO:

Fronts: Cadence (until you can upgrade them)
Rears: depends if you intend to take your subs out to carry stuff in the boot. If you're likely to take them out, use the kenwood 6x9s, otherwise the kenwood 6s
Amps:
MB Quart bridged to 2 channels to run the fronts
8401 bridged into the rears
8101D @ 2 ohms into the 2 kenwood subs.

The reason for using the kenwood subs is they're a very efficient speaker, and you'll get more out of them for the same power.

It'll sound awesome with that much power running to the speakers, but you'll have to be careful with the volume control so you don't cook your speakers. Make sure you tune it properly, or get it tuned by someone who you know can do it properly.

What head unit will you be running it all off?

thanks jono, that has helped me out, I actually have a choice of 2 head units at the moment, the SONY is a CDX-GT550, and I have a clarion DX425. They are both a few years old now but still work fine.
nothing.

The Clarion unit would probably be the lesser of the two evils as far as sound quality goes. I'd try to upgrade to a unit with high voltage pre-outs (4V or more) as the next upgrade to your system. It really makes a world of difference.
