OK guys, been doing some research. Give me some advice here.
Been thinking about conversions, engine performance increases etc.
The ca18det/sr20det for me is not a viable option. talking $2800 for the sr20det, wiring loom, cooler etc. then, u need a SSS gear box to bolt onto it, which are hard to find.
Then some engine mounts, computer etc. And thats a standard sr20det. Then if you want serious performance, needa rebuold etc. At least looking for a 5k transplant, without the engine rebuild!
SoI thought about my enigne. The KA24E.
I rang around a few places today, on rebuilds. A standard rebuild will set me back bout $2500.
For something different, I rang a few car spares, one in particular I use a lot to see how much a used KA24E motor is. I got quoted from $1100 to $1500. Exchange of course. That sounds about right.
But get this, and this is where I need some advice.
This place I liike, moore jap spares in sydney, says, the KA24E I could purchase off them is a jap import. What the hell is the difference between an australian ka24E and a jap import Ka24E?
Better still, he says, cause the only get jap imports, all engines have travelled at most 60,000km.
What jap cars used the ka24e which could possibly only have 60,000km on them? That would make them only about 3-5 years old!
Im finding it hard to believe that a 13 yr old car like ours only has 60,000km on it. If so, $1500 isnt a bad option.
Instead of a $2500 engine rebuiold, plus bolt on turbo, super charger, id get the jap import, with only 60,000km or LESS on the clock, and save the money for the bolt on turbo etc.
Can someone tell me something i dont know here?
The difference between a aussie spec ka24e and a Jap import?
and which jap cars used the ka24e, that would have 60,000km or less on the clock? think im getting the run round a bit!
