Gabriel shock absorbers

I'm planning on getting Gabriels when I replace my shocks - does anyone have anything relevant to say about these?  Is there a reason I should avoid them at all?

I did, and it came up with 2 search results, both of which vaguely recommend gabriels as a reasonable shock.  I want to know if people have any specific objections or preferences toward them.  If no-one posts here, then I'll assume that they're safe to go with.

Save a bit more and go with a brand like KYB or Koni. You won't regret spending the extra cash for a much better handling car.

Yeah, I've looked at Konis, and what I think you mean is save a crapload more cash :).  They're too expensive for my liking, and I'm really not sure I'd make full use of their superiority of performance anyway.  And as far as Kyb goes - they don't make shocks for the rear of the U12, as far as I know.  I'd rather have the same brand all over the car.

Ive heard good and bad things about gab... billiston Koni and Kyb are all quite solid brands... usually costing a bit more though

Sammyj has KYB's in his car:

from what he's written about them they sound like a good bang for the buck, plus he managed to get rears.

i will be running gabriel's in the rear and monroe in the front. a lot of people recommend gabriel quite highly. problem with gab is that they dont make fronts for the pintara anymore, which is why i'm going to be running monroe gas sports up front & gabriel gas sports on the rear.

if you want good performance & a good price go the gabriel/monroe or all monroe option..

as i've never personally run these before though (this will be the first time once i get them fitted) i cant give you my personal gaurantee, but a few guys that i have a lot of respect for 100% recommend gabriel & monroe.

i can also get these for a decent price for you too..

Yeh, sssgtr is right... save some more bucks and get Konis or something similar... You WONT regret it... Best investment I've ever made I reckon.  Haven't heard much about gabriels...

I have the money to buy Konis now, but I don't personally think it'd be worth it.  One would have to do a lot of heavy driving to really make use of them, it seems, and the other thing that makes them better is the fact that they can be adjusted without removing them.  Speaking of this, I don't actually know what you would be adjusting when doing this.  Can anyone inform me?

Also, I'd have to get Koni's specially made/fitted, because they don't make them specifically for the U12, and some part of the reason I'm replacing my shockies is because I want to do it myself.

noss- you mentioned prices for the gabriel and munroe combo; can I assume that the following prices are still accurate?

Gabriel gas - $110 each
Munroe gt gas - front pair $304, rear pair $204

The quote I got for Konis put each shock at over $200.  Compared to the above prices, it just seems too much.  :cwm12:

That would be good, noss, but if you can't be bothered I'll just assume those prices are about right.  I'm going to check around a bit.

ok, so its only taken an hour for someone to ask me why didnt i buy kyb shocks, so here is my reasoning.. the way i see it is, you can only go so good, i mean, there is going to be a point where you cant get much better than what you have, so if i can spend $500 on 4 shocks that are exceptionally good quality, or $1000 on shocks that are only 5% better, then what is the point of me spending the extra $500? especially considering i've decked the car out with stiffer springs & whiteline swaybars, i think the effects of other shocks would be minimal.

i also wasnt offered a good price on the other brands  :P

yep they (the prices) are accurate they should not have varied, if so it would only be $5.00 to $10.00 either way but i'll have to confirm

The gabriells prolly work 5% or whaterver, under the konis for the first 5 months of service but the difference in durability and loss of smoothness "like new" dampening will prolly last allot longer in the konis than in the gabriels.

There are reasons for why products cost more considerable amounts more that other products.
Pay peanuts get monkeys.

In the end I wouldn't trust someone elses opinion on how shocks go as they drive a diff car and have a diff driving style and in diff places.

personally I would get the pricier ones as they are prolly better build qual and will outlast the performance of the gabs

my 2 cents

were your gabs sports models sudesh? mine are supposed to be sports shocks for use with lower springs. i dont really mind what mine are either way, i'll see how they last me. i'm not gonna be racing on the track, so i probably dont need better shocks. my suspension upgrades are really already overkill for the road.

i was just after good handling for a bit of fun & also comfort for everyday driving..

i can't really remember what sort they were. etc. etc.. read the above thread by sudesh for the whole quote.

we have been led to believe lately that the trx has shorter struts than the other models of pintara, and i guess the stanza too. so that would help with the lowered springs issue.

i cant get enough of my handling mods either.. but for me i think i have enough. i take it easy when driving these days. and i dont participate in any hardcore street racing. i'm happy with what i have.

i also realise that the handling mods aide in keeping control at high speeds, but as i said i take it relatively easy these days. fair enough there are some people here that love their kyb's or koni's but i dont see much point in them at the moment for me personally.

if you guys are going to be "driving like you stole it"
Seeing as how I'm only just starting to get into the whole performance scene, I'm yet to start driving like I've rented my car, let alone stole it.  I'm kinda thinking my situation will be like noss'.  It's going to be a few weeks yet before I start seriously checking for prices, so until then, I'm still open to suggestion.  I did get a quote for Kyb's at $256 for the front pair and $188 for the rear.  Not super cheap, but that's only one dealer.

How have you got around the stock mounting point problem sssgtr?

I'm gonna get the same swaybars very soon for the rear of the corsair.  Noss has not had any trouble with breaking mounts as far as I know... yet...

you can tell the difference. not only are the whiteline bars thicker, but they're solid (stock equipment is hollow)

as far as reducing body roll goes its one of the best upgrades you can make.

maybe some of you admin type guys should chuck up part numbers, etc. in a thread somewhere for swaybars, etc from Whiteline?

Just a thought.

Homer!  What have you done to the car?  I don't think it had broken axles before.

Before!  Before!  You're living in the past, Marge.  Quit living in the past.

What, I never said I didn't like it asshat! :P

At least I don't think I did... but if I did, then I'm the asshat.
