shift plate for manual transmission
« on: Nov 18, 2006, 08:54AM »
i wasn't sure what area to put this in.

with the U13 attesa manual gearbox conversion nearly finished there is one part i am missing.

my mechanic tried to explain it to me, but confused the hell out of me,as he really didn't know what it looked like either.  ???

he said without it there would be a bit of play in the gearbox whilst in any gear.
he described it as a kind of plate that makes the shifting closer/tighter.

as i said, i maybe way off but the point is i can drive the car without it, but if anyone knows what this part is called and/or knows if the part suits other manual trans like the U12 attesa or U13 aus spec.   ;D

Do you mean a bit of play in the gearbox, or the shifter itself?

If its the shifter itself, then its just a spring...

well thats what i thought...
but he said whilst you would be in gear you would feel a bit of play in the gearshift without actually pushing the clutch in.

i will have to find out a bit more info... ::)

Don't worry mate.  Mine has some play while in gear, but thats just the way they are as far as i'm aware... the donor car my 5spd box came out of was the same.

an update from my last post, the gearbox has been completed, however my mechanic said it is undriveable until this supposed selector or shift plate is found and fitted.

does anyone know what it is actually called???

he's not talking about a 'H' pattern plate is he? i'm not aware of any plates as such involved in the shifting assembly.

Is he talking about the two rods that run from the under the gearstick, back to the gearbox?

One bolts to a bracket on the transfer case, next to the rear output... which then runs back underneath to the shifter like a brace holding it in place.

The other rods connects to the gear selection input shaft, which runs back to the bottom of the shifter where it bolts on.  Maybe it is this rod which is missing?  They are AWD specific.  You need one from an AWD HNU13.  A FWD rod will not work.

Where did you mech/you get the parts for this conversion from?  Did you get the two linkage rods?

You can see the two linkage rods in this picture, below the gearbox on the left... just next too the blown head gasket :P

thanks Budgie, thats helped a great deal.

my mechanic just got back to me and from the info you supplied me,he said that It is the bracket that the linkage bolts onto on the transfer case, we have the two linkages but just not the actual bracket that attaches it to the transfer case near the rear output..

can anyone now help..?????

Ah ok.

You need one from a U13 5spd as well... the U12 ones are slightly differant.  Just confirmed that with the nissan FAST database.

Budgie,

Could you get me a screenshot or image of this component and possibly the nissan part number. (not asking too much there)

I am having troubles finding this part through wreckers, so i may have to go genuine or even try to fabricate my own bracket.

or unless some kind sole out there has one i can buy off them that'd be potatoes..!

Here you go champ :)

The part number, as attached in the image is 34558-0E405

The '0' before the E could be a letter O instead of a zero, but I think its a zero (its hard to tell with the FAST database)

I think your in luck fez200, now that I see it I'm 90% sure I have a spare.

PS Budgie

Could you explain to me how to use the fast database I have no idea how to get the part numbers, I find the parts and get those numbers that point to parts (as is highlighted in red) I just have no idea how to get the actual part numbers.
Written off HNU13 Atttesa, PM me for part requests.

Once you find a part you want the number for, double click on its number (34558 like in the pic I posted).  Then close that window and go back to the main FAST window.

Then to get the full part code for that item, click on the button named 'P/No Search' when you roll over it.  Its the eighth button along from the right champ.
