Sub enclosure
« on: Dec 23, 2004, 08:25PM »
G'day people. Just need some advice/opinions regarding port sizes

I am going to construct a ported enclusure for two fpw-1500 15" subs, one chamber per sub, of 450mmX450mmX500mm, per chamber. The reason i am taking the extra space with a ported enclusure is to achieve maximum volume from as little power as i can to save the amp, which is a 550wrms alpine mono block.

My question is what diameter and length should the port be to achieve best spl. also, where in relation to the sub should it be. as in should it be to the outside of the subs? i was also thinking of porting it into the cabin thru the ski hatch to give it more air to move? good idea or bad one? and finally, wots better.. a magnet out install or magnet in?

if it helps, here are the specs on the subs:
fpw-1500 (15 inch)
maxpower=1200w
rmspower=600w
freq. response=19Hz-1.1KHz
sealed box: 1.94 cuft (55 litres)
ported: 3.0 cuft (85litres)
Magnet Structure 260 Oz
Voice Coil 2.5" Black Alloy SVC
Impedence (per coil) 4 Ohms
Free Space Resonance (Fs) 25Hz
Efficiency 90db
Mounting Diameter (mm) 14.17"/360mm
Mounting Depth (mm) 6.85"/174mm

any help on this would be great fellas. :)

one day i will learn to fly, but for now, hospital seems better
