What I did was remove the cat (on the car and not a pet...
) by unbolting off it off the flanges.
Remove heat shield, under the retain nuts etc and for the love christ be careful with the huge rubber mount that holds the entire shifter up as I broke mine and car was out of action for a month before finding a good condition one from the wreckers.
Remove the old shifter, insert new (I have the N14 one as well, I found the current U12 Shifter bush is too big and is stiff to shift so I advise to trim it down).
Reinstall in the reverse dodgy off the top of my head instructions and please use thread locker on the return spring nut as mine fell of while driving... currently I have short throw but no return spring and too big bush...
