Maybe...Diff problem
« on: Sep 29, 2010, 04:24AM »
Basically, after nearing the end of a spirited hills run, i start to get a loudish metal cluncking noise coming from the rear of my bluebird which im able to hear fairly clearly over a 3in single muffled exhaust. The reason im assuming its diff is because if i back off and crusie for a while the noise completely disappears, which is pushing my thoughts away from it being a suspension issue and something being loose coz it self fixes itself. The only thing i can think of is the rear diff is over heating and thus creating the noise and then once it cools off after awhile it returns to being quiet.

Open to any other sources of which the noise could be coming from....

And if im correct in assuming its my diff what is it telling me?? Time to rebuild her? Time for new or more diff oil? Time for a diff cooler?

Cheers for any input :)

Normally just cruising about the diff is silent no clunking at all. Its just when its hot its a continuous clunking, regardless to on or off the power, by memory.
