Rear Brake Pad Change
« on: Oct 31, 2006, 03:51PM »
ok this is gunna sound really stupid but is there some kind of trick to changin the rear pads on a u13 attesa?? i did the front ones the other day.....easy, but i couldnt push the rear piston in. One of my mates said that maybe i have to twist it in.....would this be a correct assumtion and if so how do i do it, or will i need a special tool or something

Any help would be great, cheers.

you have to twist it in, while pushing it, otherwise you stuff the caliper......

just basically use a pair of needle nose pliers and a bit of force and you should be apples

You can buy a tool from autobarn or somewhere like that for about $20. It's a socket with pins on it that line up with the brake piston so you can put it on a ratchet or breaker bar and just twist the piston in. If you have trouble winding the piston in using pliers I highly recommend one of these tools.

Cheap investment for something you will use alot, and besides that, you will end up stuffing your plies and a decent set is about $20 if not more

beejay screw the piston back so you can slide the caliper back over the disc with the new pads in the correct position, and make sure you take some brake fluid out of your reserviour to allow for the excess thats being pushed back through the line, hopefully you already knew this when you did the front ones ;)

um its been about a year since i had to do my brakes on my U12 but im pretty sure its clockwise just watch the thread closely to see if the piston is going in if not turn it the other way!

It's definately clockwise.
When you install the pads, if i remember correctly, there is a little pin that protrudes out of the back of the pad. Make sure that this pin slots nicely into one of the notches in the caliper piston.
