Crankcase pressure problem???
« on: Jun 20, 2010, 12:27AM »
Hi,
Im after some info, I've been told that sr's can have a crankcase oil pressure problem. I have no idea about this or how to tell about it. But I have a leak at the bottom of my engine and I mentioned it to one of my mates, who used to be a mechanic, and he said that it may be to do with crankcase pressure and that its a common problem in sr's. Can any one help me out with this? Im not exactly 100% sure what I'm talking about either......

your best bet man would be toget the car on a hoist and run it to see where the leak is coming from , Crank case pressure can happen like blowby but never really heard of a problem even at idle also that engine that i fitted was it fully rebuilt and was it run before or you the first?

Nah we were the first to run it. Ill put it on the hoist on my next day off and see if we can see where its leaking from. But also my gf's dad (whos helping me with it) took it for a drive today and said that it was pissing out oil from the dipstick. As in the dipstick got shot out.... help? lol

ah yes i have heard of this happening myself..... cant remember exactly what it is right now.

though i have blockage somewhere stuck in my mind. or maybe it was piston rings or something like that creating extra pressure to push out the dipstick.... when i find what i remember i will post up

yep found it, something as listed above applies

the blockage was relating to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve (PCV), check it and clean it out with a degreaser/solvent of some kind.

and give the engine a compression test to find out if it is a ring issue

My sr20 shot the dip stick out on the dyno, at high revs running 15 psi, since I have hook up a catch can it hasn't done it
