Aluminum radiators for U12
« on: Jul 7, 2010, 06:42PM »
I'm posting this here instead of import specific so more peeps will see this thread.

Anyway, I need to get a radiator to go into my U12 ATTESA.  I have a thicker stock calsonic U12 one here, but its OLD and I don't want to skimp on anything for this cars cooling system.

Anyway, do we know if GTiR/pulsar radiators fit (ie: aluminum chinese ones) or are the dimensions different? Mounts doesn't matter as they can be changed easily.

I know hugh had one custom made, 40mm hugh? Not sure about anyone else, but give me feedback guys.

cheers, and let me know what your running in your car.

havent heard any good things about the cheapo chinese rads for the subaru's, the one the previous owner of our sti put in was a cheapo chinese one and it blew 2 months ago, it wouldnt have been that old.

if you can find one that is close then use a thicker core for sure, they are great!!

not too sure about the gtir ones, i think from memory the dimensions are different by a fair bit, but you would be able to use one with some mods to it, will try and find the dimensions of one for you

Why are you guys going bananas over a custom rad?

Buy a radiator that fits in the space and make it fit by either; removing the bottom mounts (spotwelds) and re welding them to the suitable place, making a cheap bracket to hold the top and find a radiator hose that works - if you can't, be hardcore and make one from aluminium with rubber couplers on the ends!!!

It's ALOT cheaper than having one made up

edit: i just noticed the plan was to fit one in and make it work, my bad :P.

The bottom mounts on the u12 are bolted in also so makes it easier again to relocate them.

Because I don't have a radiator at all, the thin one that the car had originally was never any good and the thicker core'ed one I now have in my U13 has been much better.

Plus I want to take the U12 to the track once its finished, so I'm looking for an improved and increased cooling capacity.

So about $300 for a radiator that uses a 36mm thick navara core, using the U12 plastic top/bottom tanks... sounds pretty good mate. I'm not looking to spend one million dollars on a radiator and room is already limited between the turbo and radiator in my U12 (darn GT2876R with .63 exhaust housing ;))

I will line one up through you once my next pay has gone in mate

i know it's a bit warmer over there but the stock radiator seems to work surprisingly well on track,
i want to do an oil cooler setup.

another thing to consider is if ya damage/prang a custom job ya got to shell out for another...

How does an S13/14 radiator work in our cars? I think they have similiar dimensions. If they do fit, they got for cheap on ebay through ASI.

Fair enough mate, I thought you had one!

Can't use a standard U12 rad for now? And do an oil cooler setup?

I have been looking at doing this myself. Just a question. Dano, what did you end up doing with your fans?  Did you mount them in front?
