AMP problems
« on: Apr 29, 2004, 04:02PM »
OK last week i was driving along and my amp stopped so no subs or rear speakers. The next day when i started the car it went back on again for like 30 seconds then died. did the same thing for 4 day and now she wont turn on. According to the lights on the amp, the amp isnt recieving power. Check connections and thye seem to be ok.

What could it be??

also check your remote turn on wire
if it is a fused wire check the fuse , and check the whole wire to make sure it snt grounding out
that may be the cause
good luck

checked ur fuses?? both the inline one and the one on the amp itself?? check that no wires are loose. makes sure no wire has been stripped under the carpet and earthing on the chassis? no speaker wires or anything coming into contact?

I had the same problem, twice.

Probly wont help u but still...

The First time my remote wire came off the remote wire at the back of the deck. (only blame shonky soldering i guess ;)

Second of all my fuse holder in the bonnet was missing a tightner-type thing. All i did was jam some alf oil in there until i got another one and bobs your aunty she was crankin the bass again.

Sometimes there is a fuse on the remote wire from the back of the deck.
U might wanna wiggle that round abit coz some of those are kinda shonky.

if u wiggle your wires around in the fuse holder under the bonnet that doesnt make it cut in and out of working does it?

you could always install the head unit like my mate had to install the one in his VK Commodore - he just kinda jammed it in there. You can pull it right out if you want to :D Looks kinda bodgy though. OK. Very bodgy.

i tested the head unit connections and they were fine. pulled the ash tray out and bent and twisted my arm in there and managed to get the connections at the back of the headunit. wasnt them dammit. The hard part was getting my hand out.

According to the lights on the amp, the amp isnt recieving power.

whoops sorry

Try going down to strathies and buying some spade conncetions and re-do your ground wire and both ends of the power wire. Could be something stopping it (somehow) in the spade, who knows maybe not even making a connection. smack her with a hammer!

if you have a voltmeter simply test the wires  when not connected to the amp.
the remote wire should have a pulsing 12 0r 5 volts if i remeber right,
the other wires should be simple

i have some spade terminals and stuff that i left at tynes house...

if u have a 4 channel amp tho, they will probly be useless as im guessing you would have a much thicker power and earth wire than I
