very loud whistle noise when I go straight
« on: Dec 25, 2008, 10:35PM »
it's started after I changed generator & compressor. it happens sometimes when I go straight!! there's a very loud noise something like whistle sound (i think)

and it disappears when I turn the steering wheel or brakes.. but happens again go straight or step on the accelerator. it's so weird cause it only happens when I go straight..

you guys have any ideas about this? please help me..

p.s I'm going to sell my car in 2 months, pintara executive 1990, 150,000kms, how much can i get?

only thing i could think of is maybe a power steering pump dying if its a mechanical sound.  I've never heard a dead one of them to know.  If its more of a screaching noise it will be that you didnt tighten the belt enough  ;)

$$$ depends on condition, maybe 2.5k, but its not a great time to be selling (economy)... probably under 2k if its got strange noise or any paint defects.

I reckon it is. especially seeing as you changed 2 items on the belt. Maybe the bearings on the compressor/alternator pulley are whining, spray with something and see if it stops.
Press on both belts and make sure they have no slack. Also make sure your alternator has 3 bolts. 2 in the bottom and 1 to join it to the slide tensioner. if 1 comes out (or in a friends case snaps) it will cause the above problem.

Ill fight you. May even throw a bar of soap your way. Maybe a few wax strips and some clip on brembo brake calipers for your fooly sic civic.

My car used to have a bad whistling noise too, changed my front brake pads to find all 4 had cracks through them.  I'm guessing it was little frayed bits off the cracks causing it or something because the noise is gone.  Got some Ferodo pads now, they're about $45 for all 4 front ones from SuperCheap.  If you haven't changed them for a while you'll notice a big difference.
If you're not sure on how to change them just look it up on google.  I'm bad at explaining stuff with just words is all :P
Hope it helps.

check your wheel alignment, stupid amounts of front toe will cause a hell of a noise.
don't believe me? then try it...
