They are both CA20E motors...

Just in differant configurations with differant ECU's (maybe differant cams).

the drive of the car (i.e. RWD or FWD) doesnt make any differant on the engine name (i.e. DE, E)

the only differance between a FWD and RWD engines is the positioning. FWD goes east west and RWD goes north south. (yeah i think thgats right)

Nah, there's more differences than that... Starter is different, things are all positioned quite differently and therefore can’t be interchanged with the FWD version.  A lot of the sensors are different too.  I’m assuming the loom and ECU aren’t interchangeable?? Not sure.

The loom and ECU are totally differant, hence alot of the sensors are differant.

Ie- you have a dedicated tachometer output which comes out of the ECU at the correct voltage and all that.  The U12's do not.

Have a look in a gregorys manaul for each car.

well positioning wise they're different so everything will fit. sensor wise they're different because there were a few little technological advancements.

otherwise the engine is the same.

cam wise, the cam from the same model car as yours will be used, you dont have to worry about it being from a different engine.

the cam guys have profiles for the s12, r31 and u12.

well there isnt really a whole lot of info to give. basically you get a 2nd handcam in decent nick, and the cam guys will grind it to their specs for the ca20e, it will fit in your car & work noprobs

only reason i suggest a 2nd hand one is because a lot of people bitch and whinge about the time their car will be off the road.

if you can live without your car on the road for 1-2 weeks, then use your current cam.
