Rebuilding U13 Gearbox
« on: Jun 18, 2010, 02:36PM »
Someone on here a few months ago (possibly Laurence) mentioned that there was a place that rebuilt our gearboxes regularly. I will be rebuilding the gearbox myself, but would like to know the part numbers for bearings and synchro's so I can have them already to go before I start. I have a dreadfull driveline noise coming from my car that has been eliminated down to the gearbox or transfer case. So I would like part numbers for bearings for the transfer case too if anyone knows.

I infact don't! My gearbox builder did all the sourcing (he had a contact within nissan geelong). So I'm afraid I don't know, or have a record of any of the part numbers.

OK finally today got the last of the 6 gearbox bearings. 5 bearings for the AWD box can be found in the CBC kit K-NIS5011KIT which is for a FWD bluebird. The 6th bearing which is a centre diff carrier bearing is only available from nissan japan. The Nissan Part number is 38440-79E00. It has an NTN part number on it, ET-CR-1271ST but NTN cannot source this bearing for you, and the number means nothing to nissan, it is ONLY available from nissan.

Great information Luke, thanks for posting that up mate. What were the rough prices you paid for the bearing kit and the bearing from Nissan?

The kit was $294.80 from CBC in Adelaide, the single bearing was $92.00 from Nissan.

Went to put the box together the other day, noticed that the pinion on the output shaft is badly pitted. I spoke to Laurence about it and he seems to think that its not an issue, but since the gearbox is apart I'd like to try and find one in better condition to put in there. So has anyone got a blown gearbox that I could have the shaft out of. I don't care if the gears are smashed, as long as the pinion on the end is in good condition.

After more research and a trip to the wreckers, my gearbag is finally back together. I pulled the output shaft and crown wheel out of a KA24 pintara, and what do you know, they fit. The drive ratio is a little taller, not sure how much taller yet because I didn't count the teeth, but it's all back together and working. After all this, I still haven't fixed my brakes  >:(
