New member with Ca18det R31 pintara
« on: Aug 20, 2008, 09:29PM »
Just thought i would say hi to everyone.
A bit about myself i am an auto electrician and am pretty switched on with cars so feel free to ask me questions etc. I do all the work to my car myself. I own a R31 pintara and i put a Ca18det motor into it. Took me 4 days to fully convert my car. Was auto before so also converted it to manual. Kept the 4-11 ratio in the diff but fitted a minispool to help with traction.  I fully rebuilt the motor with standard internals at the moment but have t3/t4 turbo on a high mount manifold. Using a 38mm external gate and full 3 inch mandrel exhaust. Running 550cc injectors walboro pump and aftermarket adjustable fuel reg. Got full port and polish, Naturally aspirated cams and custom intake plenum. Usin a q45 afm and throttle body and a mixture of 3'' and 2 and 1/2'' mandrel intercooler piping. Got huge fm cooler, 50mm wide ali radiator and 16'' thermo. Put battery in the boot and rewired motor a bit different. Running a standard computer with eeprom chip and is due for its final dyno tune on the 11th of september. Had to change a few things before the final tune. Should push round 300rmhp.
I have run it down the 1/4 mile with standard ca18det fitted just running 10 pound boost and 2 and 1/2'' exhaust. Did a 14.5 second pass. Does some good burnouts and drifting. Soon to be painted and few custom body mods. Anyway feel free to ask anything.

Awesome mate :)

Welcome to antrx.  Good to hear about some CA's making good power!  More incentive for me to get mine off the ground...

I love the ca18 motor. Revs hard, goes hard and not too many problems if u do it all right. And put that motor into a r31 and it suprising handles well and drives very nice

You said you rebuilt her with standard internals, did you do anything else at all to the guts of the CA?

What head gasket are you running?

Not really just bored it out 40thou and used over sized genuine pistons and rings. Replaced all the seals and gaskets etc. Full head serive with port and polish and removed the smaller butterflies from the intake adaptor where it goes from 8 ports to four. Nissan put them in for drivabilty and emissions etc. Used a after market head gasket but its not a metal or copper one. I had a 3 layer metal gasket but never seemed to seal right was weeping coolant so i choose not to put one back on. So far no problems but will see how it holds up at power cruise.

My current head gasket is weeping coolant as well... ACL gasket.
