RWD Diff
« on: Apr 19, 2008, 08:17AM »
i Guys i have purchased a 89 R31 pintara manual RWD station wagon and it seems there is a shitload of diff slap if i really give it to it. Do you guys know if i need to get a pintara diff or will a skyline diff fit?

Skyline diff won't fit - the axles are different. From memory you need a lot more parts than just the wheel to wheel diff. Tailshaft might be different.

Skyline diffs are also a taller ratio. Pintara diff is 4.111, Skyline is 3.7 for Auto, 3.9 for Manual, or maybe the other way around.

do what I'm doing. Drive it until it stops, then get a new R31... 383,000 and still going. It could be your universal joints though.

If you get the skyline axles along with the complete diff centre it should go straight in. The ratio will stay 4.11 if you use the pintara crown and pinion

I've got a bit of play in the spline in the centre bearing of the driveshaft.

Had to replace a uni a while back, one of the bearings in it disintegrated... caused heaps of backlash and a rumbling sound at 80-100km/h.
