Leaking Pintara... Prob solving help needed!!!!!
« on: Jan 7, 2008, 11:38AM »
Hi, I have a 87 GX Pintara which is leaking water from somewhere on the bottom right hand side of the engine. I have checked and the radiator has coolant, the water is clean, but very hot when it leaks. There is no oil mixed in with the water either. Just wondering, does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the problem? Someone suggested the water pump is bust, but I felt the leak and it definately felt like it was coming straight out of the side of the engine. Other than that the car works well. Just unable to drive it anywhere coz two litres of water spills out of it within 10 to 15 mins....  :'(

I would have also thought water pump... maybe just the gasket or something.  Its at the bottom right hand side.
Other thought is that the radiator hose around the top of engine has split spraying water down that side.

As Colby has said could be the water pump. Could also be a water jacket in the headgasket.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

2 sticks and manual locking hubs. have to get out to drive it around

take it to a radiator bloke or a mechanic and get him to 'pressure test' the cooling system. He'll put a pump kind of cap on where the radiator cap and pump up the pressure. The water will squirt out of the leak and it can get fixed accordingly.

I had a water jacket in the block corrode out on me in my R31 (same as yours). That's what the mechanic did for me. Found the corroded bit and hammered in a new jacket bit.

Is it an automatic?

It could be one of the hoses on the oil cooler.

Otherwise I'd say it's your radiator hose.
