my speedo is being weird
« on: Nov 27, 2007, 10:43PM »
my speedo has been broken for a while and i cant figure out whats wrong with it

the problem is that the speedo needle doesnt show the correct speed. weird thing is that the needle really slowly moves to the approx speed but sometimes keeps going up and shows im doing 120kph when im actually doing 60...

i already tried changing the speedo part (not the whole cluster) which didnt work and also hooked up the consult. its not showing any errors and also the speed the consult shows on the laptop is accurate.

gonna take it to nissan tomorrow to see what they say, but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

cheers

Do you have a HUD in your car? If so, is that accurate?

HUD was an option on JDM vehicles, not many people optioned it though they are quite common in imported U13s in NZ.

Any chance you can try a complete dash cluster in your car? I think that might be the problem. The AU cluster will fit and work perfectly since JDM ones are hard to find. I put a JDM cluster in my AU U13 and just swapped the speedo unit. I'm sure a member on here wouldn't mind trying their AU cluster in your car, such a simple swap.

Hi people

New Bluebird owner.

My 91 altessa has exactly the same speedo problem. Was the problem/fix ever located?

Thanks

Daz

Problem found

Twist the speedo pcb and the fault would stop and start.

Resoldered all the pads on the speedo pcb and all good now.
