U13 attesa driveshafts
« on: Jul 25, 2007, 06:56PM »
Okay, had a quick search but nothing came up. Are Attesa drive shafts/cv's the same as aus spec?

I ask because:

As I exited the school car park today I turned out "enthusiastically" and lost all drive to the wheels, I immediately realised that the front right drive shaft had popped out (has happened once in the past) because the car is so low  ::) - the end that goes into the CV

So I got a lift to my house and picked up socket set etc. took the wheel off, took off those two bolts that attach the hub to the strut as shoved the shaft back in (boot had also torn). Anyway the point is that a couple of the splines were stuffed and I need to get a new drive shaft sometime soon. Also is it possible to get "custom" driveshafts that are longer so that this doesn't happen again?

any info would be appreciated :)

(I'm gonna go have a shower now because it also happened to be PISSING down with rain whilst I was fixing my car. This is karma for wagging last session :P)

Drivers side came out (right side)?

The cir-clip might be fucked.

I have never had any issues with my U12, and its as low as your bluey Jello.

Your car has a front V-LSD yes?  Is the drivers side shaft double splined or is the passengers double splined (two sets of splines, one after the other)

If its popped out before it might not have been clipped in properly. This happened in Lukes U13 but i think it was the inner joint, we had just put the engine back in and forgot the inner clip around the cv cup. We were going through the hills, and with lots of suspension movement the shaft popped out. Anyway if the splines are dammaged then you will need a new shaft, unsure if there the same as aussie spec ones or pulsars ect, i would just take it with me to the wreckers and have a look.

Oh and if you took the 2 bolts out that holds the strut to the hub then you will need a wheel alignment, these are your camber bolts.

Indeed, to get the shaft out Jello, the better way is to undo the three bolts on the bottom of the control arm where it joins the hub knuckle.

Drop it away and pull strut/hub assembly away from the car, then pull shaft out.  Thats all presuming you've un-done the 36mm bitch bolt before hand ;)

yeh, i know how it's meant to be done :P but as i mentioned it was pouring down with rain and i only had a normal socket set on hand... none of this crazy 36mm bolt action :P

hmmmm.... I don't think I have a clip to hold it in place, perhaps someone has changed the drive shafts before and neglected to put the clip back in. Will look into it this weekend.

yes it has front v-lsd, as for this double splined business the end of the drivers side drive shaft (one that goes into the cv) is single splined, should the other be double  -or are you talking about the end that goes into the gearbox?

Ummmm... you've confused me slightly.  I'm only speaking from experience with my Bluebird (which does not have a front LSD) and my TRX which does.

The drivers side on both my cars has only a single set of splines.  The passenger side on my TRX has a double set (LSD).  I'm assuming this is what the passenger side on your U13 has, the drivers side may not?

lol.... I'm confused as well budgie :P

I've never seen the end of the passenger side one so I have nothing to compare the drivers side to, but from what i think you're saying then drivers side does not have double splines, like your trx.

Yep, but you might find this is not the case on your U13 as the shaft on the driver side is short, just pops into the diff directly on that side.  On the passenger side it bolts to another shaft (using 6 funny shaped nuts) which goes through the gearbox and transfer case to the front diff...

I do not know which one has extra splines on a U13...

drivers side has the short shaft with 2 sets of splines, passenger side has the long shaft that goes all the way through with 1 set of splines.

Ha yeah, mine popped out going up Green Hill road one night. I drove it all the way down into Adelaide with it out. Then I put it back in at a BP servo using only a shifter and a flat head screw driver :D ;D. Some chick came up to me while I was doing it and she goes "you won't get that back in, Im a mechanic in the navy, you'll have to buy a new one". We all pray for the Navy.

Grr happened again  >:(

I'll try and find a cir-clip tomorrow, been too busy with school to find one. I guess a specialist drive shaft place is best to ask?
(EDIT: I got the part number from FAST so i'll be calling up nissan 2morrow)

Slow down, we probably have one lying around somewhere, I'll ask Jason when I see him tonight. Probably let you have it for the cost of postage.

It's all right, $2.21 from my local Nissan dealership (has to be shipped from over east - LOL).

I'm sure other Nissan circlips would fit, but FAST doesn't seem to think so. Meh, I can live until they get it in.

Thanks for the offer tho :)
