Skyline VS Supra
« on: Mar 26, 2007, 12:13AM »
Hey Guys Im thinking of getting a new car out the moment and keepin the pinny as a run around car. I was thinking of a Skyline or Supra. I am kinda leaning towards the supra but my dad tells me that parts for them are dear cause not many people have them. The only thing i dont like about skylines is that everyone has them where i live so some feed back will be appreciated

supra ftw. mark 3 or 4? that is the question. if its a mark 3 expect problems on a car of its age. mark 4, just expect to spend alot on servicing because you hands dont fit between the engine and the engine bay.

mate, go for something slightly original, get the supra! skylines are far to common where i come from as well. but then again im not the one buying :P

as it was mentioned i think you should sus out a budget first and then people can give a better indication on what they think. maybe insert a poll at the start of the thread? just an idea

2JZ supras have a shitload more potential than the equivelent in a skyline....

I didnt know there was a difference between skylines and supras. Then again, how could you tell with all those stickers and spoilers etc.

u could do basically a full set up for 3 grand... lets see

custom steam pipe manifold $500-700
s14 or gtir t28 + dump pipe $500 ish
modified sump $200
custom tune $400
intake pipe + pod $200
decent injectors $300
rb25det afm $200
FMIC + welding $500
bosch 040 fuel pump $300
boost gauge/turbo timer/boost controller $100-$1000

= 3,150 give or take

full 3 inch turbo back exhaust would be about another $800 ontop of that

Even better, get a KA24DE (U13) and turbo that!  You find plenty of kits from the US on ebay.

But seriously, between those two, I'd be going for a R32... sure its been done to death, but they just look good.  Supras are like an alien space ship, especially with some of the body kits for them.
An FTO would be in my options over a supra... they are quite sexy, and smaller/lighter.

If you have $12k to spend and want something performance, i'd reccomend just going through carsales and find the stuff which have already been modified... its cheaper that way.  Then make your decision fromt there.

In all seriousness.... Think of what you want in a car and do some research into the cars, also check out quotes for insurance. Like, do you want turbo 6cyl or turbo 4 cyl or even NA, FWD vs RWD vs AWD. 2dr vs 4dr. Get what YOU want and don't worry what other people think of it.

I couldn't care less what people think of my cars. I'm happy with them, they're what i want and that's all i care about.

Seeing as you're still planning on keeping the pinny as a run around, there's no use in rushing in and buying something that isn't quite what you want. It took me over a year to find a 4 door, turbo, manual R34, as they are very hard to come by, but i'm definately glad that i waited for it.

smart move mate, no point in doing something if your heart isnt in it.

go for the pinny if thats an option (which it looks like it is) and then keep your options/eyes open for something that you really want.

With a limit of 12k I wouldnt buy ether.

If you had a limit of 25-30k id be buying a R32 gtr thats had a bottom end rebuild with forgies. Cause r32 gtr's are notorious for spinning bareings. beautiful cars!

As for supras they have tough engines but for 12k you cant expect much. For 12k I be looking at 4cyl turbos if I was you.

Silvias, 180sx, Attesas, WRX's, Liberty RS's etc.

You could go for a 33gtst but IMO there boring, too common and are usualy driven by total D*ckbags.

Save another few grand, buy a cheap clean MA70 or GA70 Supra and a JZA70 half cut, swap the 1JZ engine in and start modding!

Why not a R32? Who cares if they are common they are still a good car! If a car is common , there must be a reason it is so common.....either because its cheap or its good. I'd say the R32 is the latter.
I don't see the problem with people buying a silvia or skyline. I'd personally rather modify a silvia, everything is so much cheaper with less f*cking around on the pintara! It's kinda cool that a pintara is different but i'd rather it be cheaper than expensive lol. I have other important things to spend money on  ;D *Dons flame proof suit*
Back on topic...if i had a choice i'd go a supra. Like it's been said, the engines have incredible potential with 400kw available with stock internals. Depends on your budget.

Its the sheep mentality mate.

People enjoy being differant.  Others prefer to just buy something they 'know' is good/cool/fun or whatever, because everyone else has one :P
