Wont move!
« on: Jul 7, 2006, 08:34PM »
I just finnished putting my new secondhand  ca20 into my r31 pintara (long time coming), i fired it up for the first time today and it runs ok but....... it wont sellect gears properly . It holds in park when the engine isnt running .When i pit it in drive nothing happens at first but then it seems to grab and move every few seconds! ??? Could thiis just mean it is low on fluid? ive replaced about a litre since i put the motor in as i lost some during the change, if not fluid what else could it be? Could a buggered battery cause this? (im getting a new one tomorrow as it is knackerd) Or does it sound like i missed something during the change?
If you can help please do. : :(

Check fluid in the gear box. Tell us how that goes after you check it. And top it up.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

2 sticks and manual locking hubs. have to get out to drive it around
Good old Nissan.

KA's are the shit. According to all the info on the site, they are better then sliced bread and thats saying something.

I might sound like a dumbass but here goes, the workmanual says i must have the transmission at working temp to check the oil and to do this i must drive it around a bit, how do i check it without it a operating temp and get a proper reading?

Double bind.

Just see if there is fluid on the dip stick.

Like jimbo said if there is fluid on the dipstick, there should be enough fluid to build up pressure in the gear box, to engage any gears. ie drive or reverse. There should be a hot and cold mark on the dipstick.

From memory on the FWDs there is just a shaded area on the dipstick.

Just check the level with the car idling in park.
