What size Battery?
« on: Oct 21, 2002, 06:56AM »
My battery died the other day. So I charged it up over night, and the kick was ok ...for about a day. Then, it had trouble starting, now it wont start at all. New battery time. What do you guys reconmend?
The one i got in there at the moment, is an extra heavy duty by marshall. Its rated at 430 CC 85 RC.
I know the cc stand fors cold cranking amps or something'?
IS that enough for my car? Too much? Should I just get the same type or someother brand. Working on a budget here guys.
Any suggestions?

WELL.since no one relied my post, I had to have a guess on what to buy. My manual doesnt say anything about the standard size battery.
I ended up getting a bigger one still.heheh..........
I got an EXIDE which was cheap. It was only $89 less, shareholders discount from kmart. It is rated at 460CC which cant be a bad thing can it? It has a 2 yr waranty too! So it should last me the life of my car before i sell it in one year!

i was going to suggest that you just buy the same spec'd battery, but i thought that'd be too obvious.

and i thought you were just going to run your car into the ground mitza?

Yeah.I am.but I need a battery to do so.....
and some money to buy a new one which fingers crossed will be mid next year. Depeneds how my summer holidays go, the crown casino and the alcohic beverages :)

Stupid question. I noticed in my dads XR6 that his battery is only 380 CC. Now I have another 80 CC ()amps is it?) on top of that. His is a engine etc. Is it possible that the battery I bought is too big? And that It will short out or over power my started motor? What are started motors rated at?

Without going too much into it - a bigger / higher powered battery wont hurt a bit. It will actually serve you better, particularly if you have aftermarket items such as: alarm, stereo, amp, sub, central locks, gauges etc. Anything electrical basically. You will have a lot of trouble killing your new battery.

I replaced my battery a few months back and I upgraded to a 580 cca one based on the amount of stuff Im running [just about all above mentioned].

The specs are in the manual: stock capcity is 340 cca's and the alternator is whats rated @ 80 Amp. on the 2.4!

Crown Casino? Thats in Melbourne Mitza! Are you coming down to see "what its all about" ;D ;) [j/k].
