I have had a look at this car with Princess Pintara & under the bonnet there is a SOHC 1.6L fuel injected 12V engine. So if this model lancer never came out with that engine i'm not sure where it was transplanted from. Does this engine sound familiar? from a GSR model?

Could anyone clear this up?...

Cheers, Adrian.

It could be from a CB Hatch GSR or a CC Hatch GLXi.

And if it's had an engine swap, well hey, thats kinda cool, even if it's only an extra 100ml of displacement :P 8)
The size of the engine usually isn't what people want in an engine swap, usually it's a better engine design, for example with this car, upgrading from carby to EFI and 2 valves/cylinder to 4.

If you look at the specs, a CA18DE performs better than a CA20E, even though it has .2l less displacement.

Yeah, well i was thinking this morning that it could be an import, because if the engine was transplanted it would need a mod plate (blue plate?) wouldn't it? & i didn't see one on the firewall when i looked at it.

If the car is an import like Dylan's would it be obvious when looking at the identification plates on the firewall?

Also, did Dylan add the GSR body kit to his car or did it come like that when new/imported?

the plate from the factory would be in japanese and it'd have a green australian import compliance plate on it.

Hmmm ok, well i don't recall seeing a green compliance plate on there or a blue one for that matter (indicating the compliance for the engine swap). I will check for them when i next look at the car on Thursday night.

just found that the 92 CC models came with a 1.6l sohc 4 valve per cylinder 4g92 engine with 77kw @ 6000rpm and 134nm at 4500rpm, your car is a CB if i'm right, so its had a swap done.

If this is the case & there's no Blue Plate how does that work? cause at one point it would have been registered like this & for the car yard to sell it they will need to get a RWC, & something as major as an engine swap without a blue plate would be picked up wouldn't it?

Also i just thought, being an Auto would the engine transplant have effected the gear changes, speedo & overdrive? amongst other things maybe?

Adrian.

If the engine swap has been done well enough, or if the engines have the same block then it could have been missed in the roadworthy.

What's the problem with the speedo/gears?

Nothing as far as i know, i was just checking...

But with the O/D, when it is clicked on & your driving, the car rev's out like it is in Neutral once it hits 3500rpm... the fella at the dealership says it would be something to do with the O/D button being sticky/broken & it will be fixed in the roadworthy & shouldn't be a problem when it's bought...

Whats up with that?

Adrian

Is there enough transmission fluid in it?

That sounds a bit dodgy, a button wouldn't cause it to rev freely

That's what i thought...

Other than that (which of course is a major thing) the car runs & sounds great...

When the O/D button isn't on it runs great & gears change like they should at about 3500-4500rpm

wierd.. it said 1.6L on the engine.. and yeah i dont want a car for the performance i just wanna make it look good, something that will get me to and from work and abit of weekend driving.. and i think $4000 was pretty good for its condition.. but each to their own i guess.. Aswell, my pinny is getting fixed so yeah that will basically have a new front end on it.. ..   ;D

4000 for a 92? I suppose thats alright.
Have you had a look at auctions and stuff, the car I got last week (98 Lancer GLi, 5SpeedManual, w/ Alpine CD Player, A/C, P/Steer, Some sort 14" mags :/, Nice factory wing with full books and everything) I got it for 8400, and after some other bs costs it cost 8600 all up!

I know thats out of your price range but I figure you might be able to find a car around the same age for cheaper or something if your still in the market!

last month i bought a low km excellent condition 5sp manual pintara t for $3k. you just have to look around.

i looked at a few pintara's and i did see a few in alright condition but its harder to find an auto in good condition, and i am picky when it comes to the condition of cars.. ..

they say 'So Yours' thats why i got the plates with the dot in the middle. If i wanted 'Sours' i would have gotten the  plates without the dot. I guess everyone can read it either way, but yeah they mean So Yours... And my pickiness of cars i meant body work etc, not the kind of car..  ;D

I'm guessing so yours or else she would've probably got the USA style (no diamond separating words from numbers).

not a fan of lancers (the new 1's that people try and pull off as evos) look ok but i have always thought of them (without being sexist) as a girly girls car. Saw a white 1 the other day with a 100% bright pink interiour.

I drove a CE wagon regularly as a delivery wagon.

I can safely say I was not impressed. It had a cruise control, which i turned off, because it wouldn't keep a steady speed, which I know the older style cruise control in the NA model Fairlane had. I reason that it's a fault of the gearing or engine characteristics.

If that's what princess has bought, hey, it's many years newer than old George. But i think i'll keep mine, thanks.

Hehe there's a silver late-90s Lancer at uni with light pink eyelids and mesh in the front bar, chromies and a fluffy bright-pink interior. ::)
