560km - 48.1 litres

To melton and back, also into the city ... yarravile during peak time, then back with 5 mates after the cricket friday night... car being driven by another mate who's not used to my car :)

AC on maybe 20-30% of the time

Well, sice we're so into saving fuel and money, I've started running my Corsair on LPG. The last tank got me 490KM on just over 43 litres or 8.775L/100km. Thats almost all city driving to work in Carlton and back each day, stop start driving. No aircon used because I need a new coolant compressor. Each tank I've measured over the last couple of months has done between 470 and 520 km (the highest being on a trip to broken hill and the lowest being stuck in peak hour traffic every day for a week). Thats an economy only very slightly worse than petrol, but with LPG at less than half the price per liter, sometimes around 1/3rd, its a really big saving.

I hardly notice the difference in power, and I can always switch to nice high-octane petrol when I need some extra exceleration. It also runs more evenly on the gas than it does on petrol.

There's always the weight of the gas tank to consider, but at least its located right between the back wheels, and its offset to some extent by only having the petrol tank at less than 1/4 full most of the time.

Just wanted to know, has anyone else considered makeing tha switch? I'd recomend it, as it saves me a lot of money and the cost of the conversion was mostly covered by a government grant.

Thinking about it for my grey U12.

if not already done
Vehicle: 1991 holden Calais v6 ( yes i do own a Nissan but just no rego on it)
KMs: ??????
Last service: don't know only 4 weeks ago
Extra weight: Sub woofer/amp/ cap 3 people
Mods: ported polished cheap n nasty  $30 pod filter e.p performance exhaust
Fuel:  bp 98% unleaded
Driving type: 50% highway, 50% city
Driving style: moderate, sometimes hoon aka fast take offs  day to day driving
Tyre pressure: 38 PSI
Aircon/window usage: Not that much only hot days
Cruise control: only used on long trips
i found the bp 98 unleaded  lasts twice as long as normal unleaded and  91 unleaded also cleans the fuel pump  fuel injectors and also noticed a slight increase of power. might be a bit dear but worth it as it lasts  twice as long

No fuel economy numbers?

578km to approx... 53 litres

Someone else used the pump (on the opposite side) before I could take note of the exact litres.  Fuel econ is bad'ish due to me hammering the car around on the weekend...

Am using a tank now, of 95 octane 'United Plus' petrol (10% ethanol) which was 4cpl cheaper than other unleaded...  Have taken off the spoiler.  Will see how this tank goes!

An overdue update...

My cars been returning 10 litres to 100km or worse (almost all highway) so I was getting pissed off.  Its also always idled at 1000rpm, no matter what I did with the idle adjustment.

Last weekend I put the ECU into diagnostic mode (never done it on the TRX before).  Re-started her and the idle is dead on 850rpm as it should be and shes back to returning 8.5litres to 100km.

Last tank, tonight... put 51litres into the car for 595km (all through geelong, out the bacchus marsh rd and then to Melton).  So approx 80% highway 20% city.

Gotta love the TRX, I wasn't going to fix its timing chain but I am now.  Love this car :) 256,000km on the ODO now.

i got my best last week. Only 2nd tank after new clutch went in.
did 535kms on 1 tank of regular unleaded, from a 60L tank. Fuel light was on for some time.
535/55=9.72L/kms ( althou not 100% on how much fuel went in, i know it was more then 50L and cost me $72.92 )

Filled up with Shell Premium, have driven 265km and has used half a tank. The whole time the climate control was on though, so will compare this when I refill again and drive without it on eh.
Ill fight you. May even throw a bar of soap your way. Maybe a few wax strips and some clip on brembo brake calipers for your fooly sic civic.

When you say climate control are you talking about air con? Air con should be the only thing that effects economy.

Yeah Air Con on the whole time, I actually want to see how big the difference will be without it on... I know there is one but wanna see how significant.

Also because its the first time owning the car have I had the Air con working as well... fark it works well in regulating the temps... 8)

Oh and so far most of the driving has been Brisbane City to Gold Coast and vice versa.

Okay was just about on empty, reckon I could have got another 10km so the total was 400km. Half was highway, half was suburbia.

I have just filled up again with Shell Premium and intend to see how big the difference without Air con has. Mind you most of it will be suburbia driving. So far have done 10km.

Experiment - Fuel Efficiency
Vehicle: 1991 Nissan Pintara T.I Supermtfhatch
KMs: ~ About off the top of my head 170800
Last service: ~Month ago
Extra weight: Budgie's Cellulite
Mods: I know its stupid and will be rectifying it soon with proper CAI but I have a pod...in the engine bay... :o
Fuel: Used to use Shell Racing (never looked at the mileage but I remember when I first got the car I think it go like 250km lol, after a few full tanks easy 400+
Driving type: In this instance prob 50% Highway, 50% Suburbia
Driving style: very sedate, occasional quick take off at the lights.
Tyre pressure: 36PSI
Aircon/window usage: None as per above post had mentioned, earlier had gotten around 400km with air con on constantly, now I am driving without it on and with one window down... the passengers as mine is a bit temperamental...
Cruise control: Used but and I know it sounds weird but I swear it chews more with it on.. will have to somehow measure that one.

Now that is out of the way, previously when I got 400km, it roughly meant for every 1/4 of petrol I had used, I had driven 100km.

As this pic shows (taken yesterday), for the 1st 1/4 I got around 176km.

As the next pic shows Near half the tank is gone and I have driven almost 260km...

At this stage I had a few passengers and did take off quickly a few times.

With this in mind I reckon easy 500km pass, prob if I play my cards right 550... will try to push for 600km lol.

It also signifies the effects of air con on fuel consumption (which is obvious) and while it doesn't take any of the power of the car... thank you KA it nevertheless is something to consider.

Updates soon stooges....  8) 8)

I think thats a common pintara thing. mine does the same, i get about 300kms out of the first half, then anywhere from 200-230ish in the last half.

i thought i would imput my incredible figures, i look at it closely as its an indicator that something might be wrong and plus it might have a leak....( only some of the time which is wierd), and trip computer may be out of whack a bit, averaged odo and trip meter, they are about 10 kms out from each other

u13 sss

weight:extractors, 2.5 cat back 14 gauge, 17"s (and heavy ones at that), 12" sub, 2 tyres in boot

=9.66 L/100
616 off 52.3L- all highway except for a few town stops, quick launches onto highway, 1 extra person
=8.49 L/100
632 off 46 ish L- way home, very hungover, fearing cops, very sedate eg. sat at 2200 all the way in 5, not one downshift on the highway, no overtaking, no stops
=7.28L/100

First real figures for my U13 SSS.

340km - 22.5litres (I fill it until it clicks off, then squeeze in another 1.5litres every time)

6.6litres to 100km !!!  Normal unleaded.  Thats almost 75% highway, great ocean road (!) with A/C on alot!!

Bloody amazing fuel consumption figures! Loving the KA24DE!
