The fuel pump is running, i can hear it. Tested fuel pressure - yes its 40psi as recommended. Car starts and idles fine it seems and drives OK.

Really not sure about this...

The car runs like crap. No power going up hills. OK on the flat, but I generally have to use pretty light throttle to get anywhere. On the freeway if i put my foot to the floor, the tranny kicks down and the revs are bouncing on 4000.. lots of popping in the exhaust, its pretty funny lol, scared my mate.

So clearly I think the ECU is causing this limit because it's not happy with something.

Any ideas about what a 4k rpm limit is caused by?

Many thanks!

Paul.

Centrifugal or vac advance in the dizzy seems to have failed... new dizzy, no problem :) So you were right saying timing! :) Cheers!!

There is no advance mechanism in the dizzy of a CA20E (I'm assuming that's the engine you've got).

Yes there is :)

Centrif advance is in the base, made up of 2 weights and springs...
Vac advance is the diaphragm off the side of the dizzy.

they were both busted. springs had fallen off the centrif and the diaphragm had broken and held no vac. replaced with slightly shorter springs from a wrecker dizzy and new diaphragm from wreckers. $48

all perfect now. no problems. A+ :) Perfect!!!! :D YAY

I stand corrected.

There isn't any of that stuff in a U12 dizzy.

Been having surges with my car of late too - just runs rough and when driving it dies for a second then normal again - like hitting the brakes at random - i did the computer test on it and it says code 22, after reading this i looked at my temp sensor (yellow top) and it looks like its still the original, so i'm putting a new one in $22 from the auto shop...just one thing though, why the fuel pump circuit code ??  why did it not show its own code ??  my fuel pump seems fine....
