« on: Oct 21, 2006, 02:37PM »
Hi guys im new here and i am looking for a body kit for my car. I cannot find and trx kit anywhere so ive done some research on this website and have found out that silvia kits fit with a bit of modding. My question when you mean modding what do you actually mean like does it mean Cutting it down or anything? Any Help will be greatly considered thanks

Welcome to ANTRX! :)

As for the kit it would probably pay to just wait for a TRX one to come round or if you got the cash get a custom kit fitted. When i was at rocky a while back i got talking to some fellow cruisers and there was a guy with a wicked looking front kit on his pinny and it was fairly cheap $650 from memory.

I have know idea about fitting a silvia kit.
Had a TRX, then a U13

Now i got a mz20 soarer....yeah im a traitor!

I like that car, only thing I am not big on is the neon in the front. Thats the kit ford should have used and called it corsair TRX. Then perhaps they might have sold more corsair's.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

What he needs to do with his car (if he wants to make it look a bit better) and i'v spoke to him about it...is to...

1. get a stock Corsair rear center garnish and leave it the normal colour. The red just doesnt work.
2. flair the sides of the sideskirts like I have (the ends that meet the wheel arches) door pods possibly aswell;
3. re-do the interior in another colour.
4. lose the side door moldiongs;

I'm not a fan of the stickers either. But the paint job he did himself is awsome, if you see it in real life its actualy a metalic red.

Those 4 above options would make his car look a hell of a lot better and he is gona be doing most of these mods. He's deciding on shaving his rear door handles and puting crome fronts.

If you have a look at his front quarter panel gaurds, he's actualy flared the wheel arches and pumped the gaurds (rounded) near the side quarter lights and gaurds...there is no line if you look closley. I will be doing that soon aswell, looks better. I think the main reason he did it to begin with was to match the WRX front bar at the wheel arches, thats was the onley nessisary mod to get it to look flush, other than that, it goes on without fabricating.

He's young and its his first car too, and for some one who has done it all himself... I think its not a bad effort, should look even better with those 4 modifications. He's still experimenting as we all do in the begining.

Its ok, I don't mind it at all, better than a TRX kit I think, but not sure on the front bar. The rear and sideskirts look good.

I think that bluebird looks OK, at least it matches the style of the car. I think majority of the time though cars look the best left with mostly standard panels and bumpers. Lower it and put some rims on it, thats it. Companies spend millions of dollars designing the shape of a car to look good, be strong and aerodynamic, then people go out and spend a couple of bucks to try and make their car look fooly sik. It just looks cheap to me.

Thats not how it works man. Car's come out without body kits so you can buy them after "If you like" The company makes more money like that.

Most cars are to be driven for daily use and not for racing. The Body kit is a sports option and most cars have a factory kit made some were along the line for more Aerodynamics. A everyday mum isnt gona wana drive a fully sik low car with a crazed body kit like mine for instance, its just not practical.  Body kits have a very good use...More arodynamics and bigger holes and other openings for more airflow and sections to ecourage downforce etc.  For those of us who like to take our cars to the limit, and with some style. Body kits make the whole car thing so much more interesting as you can customize a car to your taste, and thats what its about, what each individual likes on their car. Your car represents to you and others a "Self Expression." A statement.

The car scene would be very boring without kits, paintwork or engine swaping in my opinion.  Who cares how the car was designed in the first place, if it looks plain and boring. . .Modify it. Some people like to buy a car that already looks good, some like to do it themselves. I think there is more respect for yourself and a greater love for your car in modifying a car and making it a masterpiece.

I agree, majority of factory kits do look good on the cars they are designed for. They kits I am referring to are the aftermarket 'extreme' kits or kits modified off of different cars.

A everyday mum isnt gona wana drive a fully sik low car with a crazed body kit like mine for instance, its just not practical.

I agree 100%

Body kits have a very good use...More arodynamics and bigger holes and other openings for more airflow and sections to ecourage downforce etc.  For those of us who like to take our cars to the limit, and with some style.

I dont know a lot about aerodynamics, But I cant see you getting better aerodynamics with a front bar like yours. Sure its stopping air going under the car but there is also more frontal area. And the back bumper being bigger would create a bigger low pressure area behind the car, which adds a lot of drag.

Quote
bigger holes and other openings for more airflow
My car doesn't over heat, no matter how hard I drive it. I can see an advantage if you had a big intercooler, but the advantage would mostly be outweighed by the extra drag from the rear bumper.

Quote
sections to ecourage downforce
What is one of these kits made from and how well is it attached to your car. Fibreglass, with say ten bolts holding it on. Could you stand on your front bar with confidence and jump up and down without damaging it. Maybe, but would you? If not then your probably not getting anymore than a few tens of kilograms of downforce.

For those of us who like to take our cars to the limit, and with some style. Body kits make the whole car thing so much more interesting as you can customize a car to your taste, and thats what its about, what each individual likes on their car. Your car represents to you and others a "Self Expression." A statement.

Absolutely. Though majority of the time it seems, people take a car to a body shop, pick a kit off the shelf and have it installed. The only statement that makes to me is "Look at me, I worked out how to spend my money". What I like about your car Hiro is that you yourself have gone to the effort of making the kit fit and did the work yourself. Most people dont do that.

I think there is more respect for yourself and a greater love for your car in modifying a car and making it a masterpiece.

Here Here.

Ill just say straight up, unless your paint & panel workshop/fiberglasser/custom kit fabricator/ whoever designs and builds your kit etc has the same funds as toyota, nissan, BMW or any other major manufacturer, with million dollar wind tunnels, aerodynamic engineers with super advanced software, and thousands of hours of test time, no bodykit will ever match a stock setup.

Bodykits are meant purely for style, and spacing for things like front mounts. Thats about it. Aerodynamics are a very very very sensitive topic, and require HEAPS of calculations, tests and designs to get right.

Adding a wing looks good... but unless your hitting any decent speed (180km/h +) will do very little for the stability and handling of your ride.

Adding vents for engine cooling? What you are probably doing is increasing internal engine bay pressure, causing air to build up in the bay, forcing air underneath your car, and hence preventing proper circulation.

Its an extremely complex subject, which is why it costs so much for anyone to get anything right...

But im not saying they are all bad.... i have my preference with some kinds of kits as opposed to others  (refer to above) just like the next person.

But I have no illusions whatsoever about their purpose.

The Nissubishda will live....

So i know this is a way old thread, but thought i'd dig it up as i've been looking into this alot lately.

1) Did anyone actually confirm that a WRX front will fit without too much modification?
I noticed a trx on carsales which said it had wrx skirts and rear bar... so evidence points to plausable.
That red beast above looks like it used a WRX bar also.
I almost bought a stock wrx bar off ebay for just $7 so its cheap enough to find out for sure.

2) S13 silvia fronts fit with modification, Hiro being the proof of that, but how much customisation?  Hiro? ???

3)  I've measured up skyline bars and found that apart from being 5cm too wide on each side they are pretty close also.  Also very available and quite cheap.  R32 have a pretty good front curve to suit, R33 are close fit too, but a bit rounder at the front.

So out of the most popular and common aftermarket cars for body kits, it seems they can be modified slightly to fit, but as mentioned, if you have no idea about fibreglass I wouldnt attempt it, but if you find something on ebay cheaply, it might only cost $200 or so to get it modified professionally to fit.

Has anyone else had experiences since this thread last went to sleep?

Well bones made it pretty clear that WRX fronts fit easily.  I'd go for one of them as they are so cheap with so many styles.  thanks for that mr Bones, its great to find out exactly what people used for their kit.

also, what bout the other parts...ie...side skirts and rear bars? do these fit or only fronts?

All Aussie U12's use the same body. Floor pan up.

the skirts are too short or long or something by a little, the front is a good fit, and the rear is close, but has the exhaust on the wrong side...  test fit one first!

sweet...so the parts do fit...but that answered bout 3/4 of my question...final part...is it only the front kits/stock fronts that fit onto the 97 WRX that will go on our pintara or will the other year/models fit aswell?  ???
and jus confirmation...this is the whole front bumper bar and everything or jus the kits that get added on the bottom of the bar?

i know as the years progressed the wrx's became more rounded and the pintara's are still pretty square...

if anyone could answer this last bit of the question it would be greatly appriciated...if all goes to plan...here comes a kit for my ride!

The whole bar will be damn close to fitting... the only issue I can see is the sides.  The wrx bars sit flush with the quarter panel because they have no flare on the wheel arch.  The U12 has a flare around the guards, and so there is a small gap where the WRX bar doesnt line up with the quarter... the pic here might help explain.  with it bolted up the gap is just behind the light there.
