I would avoid bumps/pot holes.
But as Kranzy said, check the clutch pedal switch.
This is from the service manual.
22 Cruise control system - description and check'1 The cruise control system maintains vehicle speed with a vacuum
actuated servo motor located on the tirewall in the engine compartment,
which is connected to the throttle linkage by a cable. Th€ system
consists of the servo motor, brake swjtch, control switches, a relay and
associated vacoum hoses. Some features of the system require specialtesters
and diagnostic procedures which are beyond the scope of
this manual. Listed below are some general procedures that may be
used to locate common Drcblems.
2 Locate and check the fuse
3 Have an assistant operate the brake lights while you check their
operation (voltage from the brake light switch deactivates the cruise
control).
4 It the brake lights don't come on or don't shut off, correct the
problem and retest the cruise control.
Visually inspect the vacuum hose connected to the servo and
check the control linkage between the cruise control servo and the
throttle linkage and replace as necessary.
6 The cruise control system uses a speed sensing device. The
speed sensor is located in the transaxle. To test the speed sensor.
remove the speed sensor from the transaxle, connect a digital voltmeter
to the speed sensor electrical termlnals and rotate the gear. The voltage should pulse from o-volts to approximately
0.5-volts as the sensor rotates. lf not, the sensor is defective.
7 Test drive the vehicle to determine if the cruise control is now
working. lf it isn't, take it to a dealer service department or an automotive
electical specialist for further diagnosis and repair.
