S13 calipers
« on: Nov 29, 2002, 04:45AM »
Hokay... I'm seriously evaluating the transplant of some S13 bigger front brakes since mine are on their way out. They come in at 280mm diameter, compared with our 258mm.

Some questions:
- I'm gonna have to look out to make sure the bolt pattern is the same, right?
- How difficult is the actual process of changing calipers?
- Anyone know the spec difference between the calipers (ie. 2-pot, etc?)

Thanks,
AJ

You and me both AJ, that 280mm front disc is IDENTICAL to the 258mm one on our cars currently. Same thickness, stud pattern, everything.
The calipers need to be moved 22mm out via spacers to accomodate our calipers.

Yes, i am very slowly in the process of doing these spacers.

Oh yeah, DBA want nearly $200 EACH for the slotted vareity of these rotors  :o (that was through autobarn in ftg)

EDIT: I'm retaining the standard calipers by the way; i don't think there is a great difference in stopping power between the U12/S13 calipers, they may even be the same albeit the extended mounting tabs for the S13 calipers.

Couldn't we rip the mounting tabs off some S13 calipers and use them on the U12? Would that move the U12 calipers out appropriately?

The mounting tabs are actually cast as one piece to the caliper housing.
