Throttle Body
« on: Jan 20, 2003, 10:26AM »
Has anybody found any larger throttle bodies which are straight bolt on's to the CA20, or KA24???  Would it be worth bolting a larger TB on? I'm looking at modifying my intake to be 3 inches from the CAI to the TB. (i.e modifying the air mass sensor etc).  Am I wasting time?

Lisa: Dad, we did something very bad! Homer: Did you wreck the car? Bart: No. Homer: Did you raise the dead? Lisa: Yes. Homer: But the car's okay? Bart & Lisa: Uh-huh. Homer: All right then.

i'm going to modify my throttle body, and i'm looking into modifying the maf too.

3" mafs from the 300zx will fit, as they use the same sensors as us.  however, they are close to $400 2nd hand. turbosmart make 3" mafs, you could possibly suss out their range of goodies.

otherwise, i believe you can get the maf machined to around 54mm (from 50mm)

i know someone that can do these mods (oversizing of stock components) after i had mine successfully done, i was going to offer a changeover service if anyone else was interested.

i believe shaunk was talking to me about getting these mods done to his ca20e pintara too..

Another option is to get rid of the MAF and replace it with a MAP sensor
This will need recalibration and a little modification in the wiring but benifits would be well worth it

I`ll be looking into this and a bunch of other mods i can think of over next few months and will post results up

How much did it cost to have your throttle body increased by 4mm?

Is it a worth while option?

What are we talking about here? Increased air flow = increased performance?

Worth while?

generally, most perfomance mods involve increasing the air flow through the engine..

so yeah, basically more air = more power

i got quoted $30, but that is mates rates. depending on prices of mafs & throttle bodies, i can offer a change over service if you like..

i.e. pay for new maf/tb + a deposit, then recieve your new maf/tb and then send me your old maf/tb and then get your deposit back..

i cant remember the exact prices i calcualted, pm me if your interested.

4 mm is generally as much as you can take out of standard throttle bodies
After this you have to look at going aftermarket

Also let me add that unless a TB is the main restriction in the intake system (ie too small in a high boost application) an oversize TB will provide better throttle response.
