New Cam
« on: Jan 10, 2003, 09:44AM »
Just so no one thinks i am full of sh!t, i picked up my reground cam today  ;D

I am not ready to release specs on it as of yet until it has been run in, but i can say that approximately 20degrees more duration has been added to both inlet and exhaust lobes with a reasonable increase in valve lift.

Intake duration: 262 degrees
Exhaust "    "    : 264 "     "

I won't be able to install the cam as of yet due to 35 thou being ground off the radius of the base circle, the hydraulic lifters in our valvetrains cant compensate for such a large margin unless valve stem caps are installed at that extra thickness. Awesome_TRX did that by the way. I will be having the cam towers machind 35 thou to allow for the increase in lift. (approx 11mm vs 10mm)

EDIT: Duuuuuhhhh...i am so dumb, all i need is lash caps!

Due to the reason i stated above, i won't be installing the cam in the head currently on the car, i'm picking up a 2nd head which will be built up QUITE significantly and this cam will be installed in that head. Expected timeframe for the head buildup is about 5 weeks max.

Sounds all good
Who`s going to be doing the cylinder head modifications for you?

I`m yet to look into this area of modifications myself but we have extremely good machine shops that do our work for us

You said you had a reground cam - Hmmmm
When you get sick of this let me know and i`ll see what we can do with a new custom billet design  ;D

WHIZZN: Do you own a Pintara? You're in NSW correct?
I don't believe there is the market for producing billet KA/CA cams unfortunately.... :-/

I am yet to decide which shop here in melbourne will be performing the work, either Headfix or C&W's, but as per the other thread i posted, i am doing all the porting/polishing/reshaping/deburring myself.

No i don`t own Pintara but i have a liking for them
I own a R32 GTR Skyline which is up for sale and a 2001 Hyundai Elantra which is soon to be upgraded to 2003 model

Yes i live in NSW - Out near Penrith in Sydney`s Western Suburbs to be precise

There might not be a market to actually stock the billet cams but there`s nothing stopping ANYONE from getting one made for there cars.  Just need to know where to go to get it done.

That's true WHIZZN, but like mitza posted $350 for a billet cam is a bit out of the budget for most of the members here when a 2nd hand cam can be picked up from a wrecker for about $120-130 and a regrind performed for about $120.

Problem is the heads will be done when it eventually gets dyno'd so i'll be making more power than just with the cam.
Plus i ain't forking out $120 for a couple of power runs....next dyno day i'll be there.
