subs popping?
« on: Apr 17, 2005, 04:55PM »
Hey, i have two type S 12 inch subs running off a 700W alpine digital monoamp. Now, every time i crank the subs they seem to just stop with a pop sound  when they cant handle the amount off bass. and Just so you know it really isnt cranking them, it is just a reasonable amount of base pumping. when this happens i have to turn the deck off and then back on again. Is this because of my amp not being powerful enough or is this a fault in my wiring.

Also my deck is an Apline CDA 9827. Is it that i will need another amp or is it a problem that is solvable?

alpine d-class amps have a narrow frequency response, less than 200hz i think, so a normal line-out will do, as well as sub-out.. u say u have two subs, running off a mono amp, ie 1 left speaker outl, 1 right speaker out.. Explain how u have wired the subs.. are they in series/parralel and also are they twin or single voice coil. like are there 4 individual terminals on each sub or just two. Your amp should be able to produce enuf power at 2ohms to run those two subs, so i would suggest the problem may be in the wiring.

Also wot guage wire do u use for power and earth?

I use 4 guage.4 pretty much all the wiring. There are 4 terminals on each sub and they are wired in parallel.

you could be running to much power into them maybe? like others said the wiring could be a part of it aswell type S subs are fairly good so shouldnt be doin that. have you played around with the amp settings?

its close to impossible to blow an amp by overpowering it, especially 2!, far easier if its being underpowered, geta bigger amp  :P

When you crank em up something must be shorting out and triggering the amp saftey cutoff. Or the amp is faulty.

another thing, make sure the earth is nice and secure and contacting metal not paint, and uses the same guage cable as the power.
