Radiator
« on: Jul 20, 2006, 05:13PM »
At some stage I think I'm going to need a better radiator for the Attesa, Does anyone know how much a custom one would cost? Or would a after market GTiR one fit as its the same engine mounted the same way. Might need new brackets to hold it but id assume the inlet and outlets would be in the same place.

the gtir ones are different so not really an option, the rads on gtir's are in between the rad support not between the support and the turbo. it is like that coz of how small the engine bay is.

i had a 40mm thick aluminium rad custom made for 700 and it does the best job of keeping the engine cool, so much better than the stocko items on any car. this is probably the max you'd be able to go.

if the U13 rads are the same as the U12 ones the it wont be a problem to get one made up. if they are slightly different then get a shitty messed up rad and take it to a rad place they will tell you where to go to get it done

$700 sounds pretty reasonable for a radiator, I'm thinking of getting one and some push style fans mounted between the radiator and condenser rather than the standard pull style fans. It's mainly gotta be there for hot summer track days.

well i can definately say that a nice thick rad will do the job for you. mine has been perfect and not posing a problem and keeps everything at the proper temp if not ten times better than stock. i have a consult cable and my laptop so i can keep a close watch on things

Not that an aftermarket radiator wouldn't be a good upgrade, but spend some time concentrating on directing airflow through the radiator (i.e. high pressure in front, low pressure behind) first as even the best radiator in the world does almost nothing without good airflow.

If the track work you're doing involves higher speeds you'll probably find you have less issues than those on short tight tracks.

I didn't have any issues in my car with stock radiator but it was only 4 minutes at a time (few laps of a sub-50 second track) and still using stock turbo. However it was in the hotter time of the year up here in north queensland

Just interested in some pics of it installed just some money shots. Interested in the clearance between it and the turbo. And are you running aftermarket fans or the standard ones?

running the standard fans, from memory the fans almost ended up in the original position, if anything they were towards the turbo mayb 10mm so it wasnt invasive at all
