Steering Rack - U13
« on: Jun 18, 2006, 12:39AM »
I'm getting a hell of a lot of play in my steering wheel and so I'm guessing that the rack may need replacing.  It will probably costs heaps so I'll wait til it's rooted before getting it fixed.

Does anyone know if the Atessa rack is the same as the Aussie U13?

It's most likely that the play is in a rack end. If you take it to Pedders and get a saftey check done they will put it on the hoist and tell you whats wrong with it.

Thanks.  Pedders did a wheel alignment on her about a month ago and they said that there was "R/H freepaly in the steering gear", but they didn't think it was an urgent repair.  Does this mean that I can just get the one end fixed and I don't need to replace the whole thing?

Yeah, you can replace rack ends individualy, they cost about $30 and are not too difficult to do. The play could also be in the tie rod end. Ring pedders and find out what they meant.
