Hey all,

Over the last 2 months or so, i'm thinking that the clutch is gone. When changing 1-2 or 2-3 usually, it'll squeak and shriek as it engages. Have replaced the slave cylinder because that was leaking, but that didn't fix the problem.

Normally, when the clutch goes kaput, it behaves as if the clutch is pushed in - e.g revving like it's in neutral with gear engaged, slipping when given a bootful of accellerator...

I'm not too sure of the problem, but i'd like to have some idea of what it could be... I'm thinking more clutch hydraulic system than clutch plate, because once it's in gear, there's no problem.

With someone pushing the clutch pedal in and out, watch the gearbox where the slave cylinder is (and the other bits around it). If it moves properly, I'd be guessing the hydarulics are ok. If not, one of the cylinders could be shot (Probably the Master)

When my master cyl was dying though (u12 trx), it'd loose pressure and you'd have to pump it up before it'd become useable again. Pedal was very spongey.

there's no change to the pedal feel, it's not spongy. It was doing the same thing before and after the slave cylinder was replaced. Have checked fluid in master cylinder - it's where it should be and the cap's on tight.

The noise is like 2 smooth surfaces aren't going together cleanly - i.e not gears clashing. Kind of like dragging a chair across a lino floor, like we all used to do at school.
Only happens at low speeds, too.

I'm in backwater, victoria - you're all the way up in queensland.

If it was going from me to you, i could just send it up with one of the 12 million people moving there every week

spoke to my mechanic, and gave him a vague description of the problem. He's then proceeded to give me a better description of my symptoms and told me the problem is the spigot bush in the gearbox.

So, it's getting fixed on one of my all to frequent lately days off work.

I'd tear my hair out if i had any left.

picked up the car

DAMAGE REPORT:
- clutch plate shagged, friction material level with the rivets, and starting to come loose
- pressure plate no better... scored to billy-o with the rivets
- the pivot bolt was snapped, which was what was making the noise

But yeah, it's an old george... now that that's all fixed, the clutch is so light it's just bullcrap!

it takes no effort to push in. I can't say i'm a fan.
