Ok, with the new footy season rapidly approaching, i was thinking of kicking off a tipping comp for both NRL and AFL and enough people are interested?

My idea would be that by 5pm on a friday everyone needs to post up there tips, this way any edits can be seen and we can keep track of who has tipped who. Then at the end of the round the first post can be updated with the results (might even do up a table in excel and have a downloadable spreadsheet).

If no tips are submitted by 5pm, or start of first game for the round...however people want to do it then that person is automatically tipped the away teams for that week.

Thats how i would do it.

We'll need to have a set way of posting our tips each week so that they are easy to collate

And the real tipping thread will only be for posting your tips each week, not general chit chat.
We don't want people/proacts posting up their tips like this...

lets set up an afl website account and then we can all do it through there.

A LOT EASIER setting up a group comp.

im only going to do AFL prob, cos down here in Adelaide we only get NRL games at 1am in the morning and only one game a week.

ill be tipping for both AFL and NRL.

my idea is very much similar to your idea Kranzy, im happy to run the thread, maybe submit tips via PMs, and the tips i could then relay into the thread, using a Excel doco, that way we keep the tread clean of random shit and post whoring.

but im pretty sure on optusnet that you can do it, i use to do footy tiping with my clan, but you forget about it sometimes...

Its probably an idea to submit tips into a certain thread that way everyone knows who tipped who and it can easily be seen that everyone has submitted tabs on time.

Nah i htik the AFL site it the best way to do it.

all users have to do is log in and submit there tips ona weekly basis.

easy, the ladder is done the margins etc are done for us. Tooooo easy.

ill set it up when we get more than 10 people

I'm not saying that your idea is shit, but could you at least give everyone else a chance at posting their ideas before you make a decision on everyones behalf. and not to be rude or bossy, but I think it would be best if a moderator was in charge of planning and running the competition.

I'd be keen for whatever. Definetely AFL and maybe NRL as well.

I ran the footytipping comp for about 150 people at school (created and printed tipping sheets and the ladder every week).

But i got benefits for all that work that not even the school knew about

Perhaps it maybe an idea to have Kranzy run the AFL one, and have SSStick run the NRL one, i think it might be easier to keep the two codes seperate...

very good idea Jecks, and i think we should keep the comp within antrx, rather than using a seperate website, keeps it more simplified, instead of having to jump between webpages.

In terms of prizes...antrx is a non-profit based site so we dont have money to throw around at prizes for these comps unless an entry fee is introduced. Im not going to do that as we want as many people participating as posssible.

Instead im going to offer karma awards: (not finalized)

but will be something along the lines of

1st place: 5+ karma
2nd place: 3+ karma
3rd place: 2+ karma

If anyone manages to get 8 in a round that will also be 1+ karma.

More information will be in the AFL tipping comp regestration thread which will be up in the next few days.

on the topic of prizes, ill sort something out through work....not making any guarantees though.

a karma award system will be good, like kranzy said with the 8 tip, and also i think a +karma for the person that wins the round.

I thought about doing winners per round but there could be everyone winning a round so a clear winner isnt always possible i decided against it.
