While I have the engine out my Attesa, Im going to extend the wastegate actuator rod so I can run close to 0 psi. This should make it easier try drive nicely in first and second gear and give better fuel efficiency. Because I have a dual stage boost controller, if I want it to go better I can just flick the switch. Once the car is all back together I will try the fuel economy out.

just a bit of  a problem i have with the mythbusters thing

* Test was done at 50MPH, about 80Km/h
* Drag rises the faster you go

I reckon that at 100 km/h you're better off using the air con, but that's my opinion.

The best I ever recorded was 7.9L/100 - the average is 9.5L/100km. I have a pretty big spreadsheet that I've used since this time last year and have accounted for every drop of fuel that's gone into the car since then. I might upload it tomorrow so you can all have a look.
His: 2001 Audi S4 biturbo quattro 6sp, Nogaro Blue/black leather recaros, microsilver trim, bose 10sp, SSAC 2.5" twin turboback, RS4 rear sway, 25% tint

Hers: MY99.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro GP Edition AVANT 5-sp, phantom black, black leather buckets/walnut/sunroof, 2.5" D&T Turboback, K04-015, N75J, 710N DV

Bro driving: 1990 Nissan Pintara TRX 5sp Red, 16" Rozzis, Lukey 4-2-1 ext, 2.5" full exhaust, hi-flow cat, cone cai, stg 3 chip,  low Kings, GT Gas shocks, Urethane bushings, slotted front rotors, 398000k and still going strong; 0-100 in around 7.2-7.4 seconds

Ashman: Not bad figures...
Considering you would have given it a bit of the boot on the cruise ey :)

Yeah i'd only had the car for 2 or so weeks b4 that so i was still "running it in" :) But nah back to normal driving for me. All petrol problems were fixed and engine (apart from starter motor) is running perfectly (or as well as a 14yr old engine at 209000km does)

I couldnt be happyer with it!

Wicked: I'll be interested to see your fuel consumption figures :)

Just top up a full tank. Will have results in about 2 weeks.  ;D

Results are in

480km with 42litres of unleaded fuel

That 8.75l/100km, not bad I think  ;D

Driving condition: 100% Suburban driving to work & back only, speed limit 60km/h.

550km - 60litres (9.16L to 100km) - BP Ulitimate ($1.15 a/L)
You divided the km by the fuel, not the other way round. Your consumption is 10.9l/100km. I was surprised how little fuel I used, I didn't check the exact mileage, but I got an extra 50-80km out of that tank compared to my normal delivery driving ::)

I get around 12.5l/100km doing delivery driving and the daily grind to and from uni :-\

That's about the same as what I'm getting, Milf.

I have an auto CA20 with extractors and no factory CAI snorkel and a whole lot of crap in the boot including a 23mm sub box and parcel shelf.

I would have thought a CA20 would get slightly better economy than that.

Me too, but I do alot of pizza deliveries which are hard on the car, being started all the time and driven harder than normal for about 4 mins or so at a time. There's that, and it's an auto.

Fuel Efficiency
Vehicle: 1994 U13 Nissan Bluebird LX
KMs: ~206000
Last service: ~200000
Extra weight: Air Con
Mods: whiteline front and rear swaybars
Fuel: Woolies Unleaded (95Ron)
Driving type: 10% highway, 90% city Or 90% highway, 10% when I go on trips
Driving style: Very sedate as I have kids
Tyre pressure: 32 PSI all round
Aircon/window usage: Aircon most of the time in summer, heater in winter, windows always up.
Cruise control: Whenever I drive on the highway.
Current average fuel consumption: 40L gets 550km's on the highway = 7.27L per 100kms, 40L gets about 300km's to 350km's in the city = 13.3L to 11.4L per 100km's

Last full tank:
About 300kms from 40L city driving.

I am really impressed with my bluebird when I drive on the highway I can get over 500km's on the highway easily but when in the city the fuel economy is shithouse!!!!!! O2 sensor has been replaced and I run fuel injection cleaner through her every couple of months and keep her serviced too.
I drive conservitively as it is the family car and kids are normally in the back.

I thought these U13's were meant to get 10.4L per 100kms in the city, well roughly.

Not a bad result wicked :)
Cheers for taking the fuel economy test.

MrMultiValve: The official LX auto figure is 10L/100KM for city driving, while the LX manual does 9.5L/100KM.
Now 11.4L/100KM in the city aint too bad, the fuel economy test manufacturers perform aren't really real world figures so you should always expect to consume a bit more.
At the momen't, i'm getting anywhere between 8L-10L/100KM depending on how much city and highway driving i'm doing and how aggressive my driving style is.
11.4L/100KM in a pure city environment isn't bad for a tired, old engine.

Possible causes:
32PSI is quite soft for tyre pressure, i'd recommend you pump them up to 38PSI and check your pressures monthly. A general rule is the higher your tyre pressure, the better your fuel economy (just don't go pumping it up to around 60PSI ;) ).
What oil (viscousity) are you using? The KA24DE runs better and more efficiently on thinner oil (5W/ etc).
Can you smell a strong fuel smell when the car is idling? It may be running rich.
Check that your air filter isn't clogged or better still install a high flow air filter.
Carrying any unnecessary weight? Get rid of it.
Reconsider your driving style.
Reduce drag - keep your windows up. Or if you must, use windows for cooling at speeds below 80KM/H and aircon for above.
Replace or check your leads, plugs, and coil.

Anyone have anything else to add?

I forgot to add that I have a $3,000 stereo in the bluebird but I cannot get rid of that  ::)

11.4L is the best I can possibly get in the city and that is only once, at the moment I have done about 40kms on the first 1/4 of the tank, but I am about to go on a highway trip.

I have spent about $2000 in the last few weeks on her doing maintenance etc.. hoped that the O2 sensor would improve the economy, I will change the plugs and see what happens. My air filter could be clogged up a bit I have a pod to put on it.

How much does a new coil cost?

Thanks

If you have a nice heavy sub box get rid of it :)
Just buy a new air filter, if you don't want to spend much grab a new high performance Valvoline panel filter (about $15 from memory). Spend a bit more ($80 for uni filter, $140 for K and N) for a decent high performance/flow panel filter. Don't bother with a POD filter unless you locate the pod out of the engine bay to a place where it is sucking in cool air. If you just put it in your engine bay, it will be sucking in hot air giving you shit performance and fuel economy.
No idea on the cost of a coil mate.

Bluey was pretty crap with a trailer, when i drove to sydney i think a full tank of gas (91) gave me around 480km mark, not as much as i though it would, but hey still had a trailer attached.

48.04 Litres
559.9 km

8.58 Litres per 100 Km - combined delivery driving and highway to/from work.

This means I beat Alister, at any rate!

My best so far... I'm not sure what it is with my car, but something is still 'off'

47.31 litres
494Km

9.5 ltr - 100km  (75% highway driving and the rest very tight city driving, melb CBD and around geelong).

The tank after that, only driven to work and back and to a mates back a few times over two weeks...

295 km & 44.26 litres used... so 14.9 or so to 100km!  But I give it a little a fair bit on the way home from work and to work early in the morning.
dont piss me off with your pillarless shit captain snappy wrist

it will be pretty much all suburban driving, with a little highway
ive put the foot down a few times as well.

That's a good figure. Now that you've mentioned standard unleaded petrol, I remembered watching one of the current affair programme on TV. They did a test on the mileage of each fuel with some newish Hyundai cars, circling around. Here's the result with best mileage to worst: E10(Ethanol 10 %), E5, Unleaded, Premium unleaded. Interesing figures isn't it  ;D

the results are in

for this tank, with about 80% suburban driving with 20% highway i used 35 litres for 308 k's

which works out to be 11.3 L/100k's
i hooned it a fair amount of times as well, still cant get over the boost.

 :-[ fuel figures this week

45.13L to get across 486.2 Km

9.28 L/100km After my last effort, that's crap!

Since I've been putting figures in here, i'm up to 253.62 litres for 2824.6 km, or a shade under 9 l/100km
