Vladivanovic:

I'm pretty sure it would be illegal as well. I'm going to hook it up to the normal stop light wiring with a switch beween to control when it gets used. So for instance, when i'm cruising to and from work and just around it wont light up at all.. but when i'm cruising with the club or just showing off flick the switch
to activate. I need to make a housing for a set of custom switches for various things.

Hey guys,
I have another idea for the interior and could possibly be converted for use outside of the car as well. At my work we have this wicked two pack glossy UV flouro laquer. It's clear laquer that you paint on things and when under UV lighting glows an intense bright purple. I was wondering what it would look like if i was to add highlights to my interior (console/dash) with this clear laquer and convert the room lamp to UV!! Further thoughts could be using it to make a custom purple glowing instrument cluster providing i can find proper lighting for the job. Also I was thinking how everyone these days like to put neons in their grill. Instead of neons, what about a custom TR.X badge outlined with UV laquer with a blacklight hooked up somehow. Anyways I don't know what possibilites there are for UV lighting b/c i've only ever seen them come in fluoro tubes and bulbs. If the made plastic coated UV's like the neon then that would be perfect. I would prefer to use LED's as they require fuck all power and they don't die like other lighting.

I just did some investigating and they make UV LED's and in the blacklight blue 475nm spectrum. These are the same specs as the UV tubes we have at work which look crazy in the dark. Has anyone been to an AMF bowling centre on a saturday when they have the UV lights on and most things glow in the dark? well thats what my idea with UV light will look like!!

Thanks for the website chris they have some cool LED's and cathode rays. If i decide to go through with UV lighting then this site has made life easier already :)

Ok Jono, Where on the UV spectrum do these lights fit in? I need some some in the Blue spectrum about 475nm.

 ;D That's the point, soon enough i should have a complete plug !  ;)

All UV cathodes give off a purple/blue colour, i've yet to have seen one that doesn't give off a different colour or neutral.

UV lights can come in any colour of the spectum. Cathodes are obviously the same. I want a 475nm light b/c that is towards the lower end of the spectrum which radiates shorter waves but with a much more intense colour than the longer waves in the other end of the spectrum and is such more 'reactive'. The only colour that is more intense is a little further down the spectrum and is 'pure' or 'neutral' with no colour but radiates the most uv light. On the high end of the spectrum is red which radiates longer more concentrated waves but not as much 'spread out' as the blue/violet band in the spectrum. Further up from the 'red band' and you have IR light. So, they can make them in any colour (havent researched whether they do), just they aren't as 'intense' in colour as the blue/violet band in the spectrum.

About UV lights:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV

UV light is light that's just off the end of the visible spectrum. It doesn't come in any colour other than ultra-violet. 475nm would be a purple light because the UV spectrum starts at 380nm and goes down to about 1nm.

There's only one colour of UV and it's a weird purple colour that does trippy things to your eyes when you look at it.

UV lights are also known as black lights.

Here's some info about UV neon lights:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fluorescent_Black-Light_spectrum_with_peaks_labelled.gif
The majority of the light emitted from them is at 370nm.

Some early UV LEDs emitted light between 395-405nm but they weren't really classed as emitting UV light.
