U13 Bluebird Front Bar
« on: Oct 26, 2005, 12:11PM »
Hi again peoples,

Im sorry if all I ever post is bullshit, but hey, im learning  ;D

Ok, I want to get a different front bar on my car, something that looks
very unique that no-one else has.
I was looking through the "trading post" forum, and noticed that brad
was selling a U13 Bluebird front and rear bar.
Now I was wondering how hard it would be to fit it to a U12 Corsair (UA) ?
If it requires a little bit of fibreglassing and shit, that should be fine as my mate
does fibreglassing for a living.

And last of all... Think it would look anygood?

Thanks,
Josh\\

Personally I think the rear bar looks to fat... and the front bar looks ok'ish, except the little bit at the bottom that curves up at either end into some kind of wing or something, not a fan of that and I don't think it'd look good on a corsair... maybe someone with photoshopping skills and time could attempt it?

As for fitting it to a corsair... I wouldn't be able to tell you...

I was mostly thinking about putting the front bar on as im not a big fan of the
rear bar anyways.

If it fits on pretty easily, i might have to give it a try or something.

Ill take a photo of my car this afternoon and try to photochop the front bar
on and see how it looks.

I think you would have a fair bit of trouble actually mounting it.  The mounting points would be different and so you would most likely need to make your own.  I think it would look good, but not sure if it would actually fit.  Possibly the bar would be too curved, i imagine it wont fit snug with the lights.
But i might be wrong... if you could actually get a stock u13 bar and compare then you will get a better idea.  or just find a u13 on the street and park next to it.  you should quickly see difficulties if there are any.

I'd think that U13 bumpers (Stock or spiced up) would look terrible on a U12. The U13 is much curvier, and the bumpers contribute to this. It would look bloody awkward on the squarer U12 IMHO.

i agree with robert. the very basis behind the u13 is a rounder shape, it would just ruin the u12.

Yeah i agree with everyone else here on this one.  The u13 is just too round, it would look awful.  Square kits like the trx one look the best.

Well hurry up and find me a TRX front bar then  >:(

And yeah, i sorta agree with you guys about the roundness.. i just want to get rid of my crappy front bar and
replace it with something unusual and unique, but i would gladely settle for a TRX bar.

I think Pinsair had an N14 front bar on his car for a while, it didn't look half bad :)

The easy way to mount the U13 bar on your UA would be to take the metal 'reinforcement' of the bumper bar (behind your existing plastic bar) and fibreglass that directly onto the back of the U13 bar

But as almost everyone else has said, the U13 bars are too bulbous for the U12.

I think i saw the pic of the Pintara with the N14 bar, it looked pretty good, but would
having TRX skirts with it look ok? or would the bar still be to low...

Also, i think i would have a bit of a hard time sourcing a N14 GTiR bar in newcastle area.

Thanks,

if you're paitient, i can have a TRX front bar with skirting in a month or so... maybe... i've been pretty slack in doing my front end conversion, but when i find the time (or have motivation to sell the trx bar, hint hint), then its all yours...

yeah, no worries, but its white, you'd want to respray it tho... i'll explain everything over msn tho..

roughly tho... maybe $200... if you want the foglights with it, $250, they're not the standard ones, but they fit just fine

we'll talk msn tho

I'd give the U13 front bar idea a try :)
nu12 and I were discussing on the cruise that the actual chasis of the U12 may be similar or the same as the U13 chasis, just vastly different panels.
The Holden VY/VZ Commodore was built on the VT chasis and look at the difference between them due to the vastly different panels.

Sure, the U12 + U13 chassis' may be very similar (Hell, one's an evolvement of the other), and as such yes the bar might go on without any major dramas, but I still think mixing panels / bumpers would look very awkward.

Sure some commodore drivers put newer model bumpers on their older cars which looks OK, S13 / S14 / S15 do whole conversions on the front/rear ends to create a half-half mix, but the lines and shape of the U12 and the U13 differ so greatly, I don't think it would be possible to pull it off with it looking clean and neat.
