88ish celica spoiler onto U13
« on: Dec 16, 2007, 10:33PM »
So the title pretty much explains what I intend to do.
I was just wondering if anybody has attempted anything like this before and have any hints to help me out or any suggestions or anything.
Ill post some pics tomorrow of the spoiler and what not to give you more of an idea.

Edit: Some pics

And heres some pics of it just sitting on my car:

i've got no hints or tips but i'll say that with a bit of work making that fit nicely thats not a bad selection you've made there :)

its a nice style.. similar to something i'm working on but i'm not entirely sure i want to do it anymore cause i decided i like my car without a kit and a spoiler might ruin the looks.

damn thats not bad.
i think youll have to mold it to the boot with some bog or something cause (from the 3rd photo)it looks like theres a gap between the spoiler and the downward curve of the boot, fix up the chunk taken out of it, with more bog? and respray to get rid of the toyota/celica bits, otherwise youll probably get stabbed for driving a nissan with a big celica slogan over the spoiler.
but otherwise it should look great
good luck
 :D

Please dont bog that gap up, do it properly. For the massive chunk out of the spoiler, whats that originally for? anyway you should be able to fibreglass that up all good and proper. and id suggest fibreglassing it to the bootlid to get that seamless look if thats what your after.

That does look good!  Will really suit the back of the car.

Maybe buy a cheap bootlid from a wrecker, one with bad paint or a little dinted.  Then fit the spoiler to the boot, mould it all in nicely then get the lot painted.
dont piss me off with your pillarless shit captain snappy wrist

Ok guys. Im really worried.
Ive called around a bit to get the spoiler painted and fitted (fibreglassing not included) and its gonna be really expensive.
$180 for painting and $100-$300 for fitting.
I seriously have nowhere near this sort of money.
So I'm just wondering if someone can help me out with some hints on how to do it, or if theres someone in Adelaide that can help me out. Of course I can pay, just not heaps cos I'm a poor bitch. lol.

Now I understand that it maybe out of the question for before the new year... but anytime before the end of Febuary and I'd be happy.

Also, i was thinking of not fibreglassing, but after talking to a few people, ive decided that I'd rather do the job properly and do it. Another issue of course. Adds to the price and also adds another task of which I have no experience and no idea how to do.

So, please please please help. Anybody in Adelaide thats done some bodywork and/or fibreglassing throw me a PM and maybe we can sort something out. Thanks.

I'd say practise to fibreglass yourself, when you feel game enough, try it. On another U13 boot of course.

It looks good though!

That would be off a ST162 or ST165. They are a nice car. Good motor aswell.

Good luck with it unbalanced.

Just looking at the pic's, I noticed the spoiler overhangs the bootlid by what appears to be 20mm and is somewhat square on the edges, I am only making a suggestion but, would it look better if you moulded the edges to 'fall' over the sides of the boot and finish in a sort of point slightly forwards. Agood example of this on a vx commodore clubsport, I will try to find a pic to show you better. This presents anoth problem though, you can't really fibreglass yet.

Note: This is only a suggestion, if you or any other member doesn't like it that is fine, afterall that is what a suggestion is.

Can you get the ends off a Celica and put them on your quarter panels?

I'd say the notch out of the front of the spoiler is  for the rear wiper.

That is a surprisingly close fit, it shouldn't take too much fibreglass work to get it to fit nicely. Even the tail light cut-outs are close!

couldnt you just 'shave' the spoiler to a more appropriate shape? considerring its already close to fitting it wouldnt take too much and then it would mean less glassing...
